My tempest was working great, and all of a sudden in attract mode, a loud humming happened, and the monitor went blank. It would not play blind sometimes, and not other times. I turned it back on once, and it came back normal for a few minutes, which indicates to me it is not broken, but just maybe a bad connection. Now it no longer shows a picture no matter how many times you recycle power.

I opened the back, and jiggled the main pcb edge connector, and the while jiggling it, beeps happen, and the coin counter on coin slot one starts clicking off, plus one digit every second. The game plays blind for a few seconds on initial startup and then stops working.

The game does go into test mode, and the monitor shows a test pattern.

I checked all the connections, and will reseat chips, however, gently twisting the pcb connector and causing beeps and coin counters to go haywire leads me to the pcb edge connector. What should I do? Clean it, and test continunity. I know they are a pain to replace.

Thanks
Rick

Does the test mode show a test pattern every time you select it, or is it flaky as well?

why would gently twisting the pcb edge connector create problems

When I twist the edge connectors, it beeps and the coin counters co crazy. What would cause that, a short?? Could that be my problem?

If you haven't already, I'd re-seat that interconnect cable going between the boards. I would agree that the monitor is fine. I would check out your voltages as ArcRevival said and see if they correspond to when the game isn't running at all.
