Tempest / Star Wars monitor dilemma - What would you do?
So I've had this Tempest that I went through and fixed up the monitor on. Cap kit, LV2000, new flyback, new pots, etc. It works good except that it doesn't get HV right away sometimes when I power it up. The B+ reads very low intermittently. Sometimes it comes up immediately but other times it takes 10 or 15 minutes. Once it starts working it's beautiful and keeps working.
I posted about it a while back and never figured it out so I just lived with it.
Well now I have this Star Wars project and I'm tempted to just rob the power supply out of it and throw it in the Tempest. It's in good working condition so it should just work. But everything will be old in it now so it's more likely to break.
Plus I would feel bad for passing along the power supply issue to whoever is fixing up the new cab. Of course I would tell them about it before selling it to them.
So what would you do? Keep trying to fix the old pretty one? Or rob the dirty old project one and fix it up?
