My Tempest started acting funny this morning so I ran a test on it and it came up that the N/P3 rom is bad. The part number from the manual is 79-42C24 and the chip has the following printed on it:

136002-111ing it into the board
AM92188PC
37084 8141DPP
@ 1981 Atari

I have never done this before. Where do I get the part, does it need to be programmed, and is there anything else that I need to do besides push it onto the board?

Thanks for your responses and please be patient with me if my questions seem ridiculous, new to board repairs and am trying to learn.....

First thing I would try is to gently push in on that ROM. Sometimes they will "creep" out a bit causing errors. (I personally would do all the socketed chips)

If that doesn't help then I would remove the ROM completely and then re-seat it back into the socket. If you don't have any kind of chip puller, just gently work it out from each end a little at a time until it comes out. Make sure all legs are straight. And make sure all legs are lined up with the socket properly before pushing it back in.
