Tempest Repair guy, is this guy any good?

neither road.runner or talon2000 are taking in new work.

repair

id say with 100% feedback where he has repaired others boards would be a good indication he is pretty good.

What is wrong with your Tempest board exactally?

It's not sending anything to the monitor. Is that called Spot Killer?
It does not play blind. Sometimes it coins up to a stuck buzzer sound. Sometimes the coin door knocker is stuck knocking... I never heard any game sounds.

Voltages seem fine.
Deflection board has a LED on. (not blinking)
Main PCB board has it's LED on. (not blinking)
There is neck glow on the monitor.

Your board is resetting. Test mode show anything? First thing to try would be cleaning and reseating your ROMs.

The interconnect cable can be *REALLY* fussy on Tempest boards. I would try cleaning the board pins and reseating the connector. Also, make sure that your edge connector is making good contact with the boardset.

I jiggled the interconnect cable and I reflowed the header pins.
I also did reseat a mess of the chips. None of them looked very dirty etc. So I

at least he's likely to not mess with someone that can show up at his door at any given time.

I have to admit. I ended up shipping my board to him as he said on the phone that he should be able to get to it. I'm going to try to hold him to his week to get back to me on what it's going to take to fix. All of this happened before anyone posted on how he's screwed folks here and his full name to search. SIGH... I need to say some prayers that nothing bad comes of this.

I'm new to anything with this guy. Dokert and others seem to have past dealings and years of 411 posts about him with loads of warnings. He has fixed some boards for people although. Seems YMMV... and rolling the dice.

What's the story with him? He's local to me and I was thinking of taking both my Tempest boardsets over to him.

Bait and Switch is his favorite ploy. "Your boardset is not repairable" ($65 agreed upon repair price), "but I do have a working boardset available for $150."(exchange)

Number 2 favorite ploy is to "DK" you. You send him your boards and he doesn't know you, didn't know you sent them to him, didn't know you had agreed upon his advertised price, doesn't know where your boards are, etc.

Feel free to use the search feature and look him up.

His auction talks about sending him contact info...

THIS is why I REQUIRE a repair request form to be filled out if people want to send me a board for repair.

He should do the same as it helps keep things from getting lost.

In this guy's case, he either sold or destroyed your boards.

The guy does put together a nice cap kit, I must admit.

He takes so long to repair so there is NO chance to leave negative feedback. (Time expires). And he loses boards.

He "lost" my asteroids PCB, and sent me a crappy alternative

He is a dbag. I can't believe he is still in business

In any case let us know how this works out for you and don't let the time expire on the feedback option.
