Ok.. I was installing the Atari PS repair kit from Bob Roberts .. one question. How do you make sure the bridge rectifier replacement is situated the right way..or does it matter?

Is the bridge rectifier the large bottle cap resistor? If it is, it will only fit in one way.. Well it will fit both ways, but you can't screw it down if its in wrong.

I'll post a pic when I get home. I think I have it hooked up correct..but this is my first time installing one of these kits.. I really don't want to fry anything. The old one was I guess what you call the 'bottle cap'..since it had a metal top. The new one is slightly smaller and square with on corner notched.

If you are talking about the bridge under the power brick. The notched corner is the positive and the opposite corner is the negative. The other two between are the AC inputs. The old one should have a notched corner or stamped with a + on the positive.

Schematic shows. Both the AC wires are orange. The positive is Orange/Black and the negative is Violet/White (both connect to the "Big Blue" capacitor.

No, it's a silver / black ~2" square. It's just four diodes in one package to convert the wall AC to DC to feed into the big blue.

Here's the relevant excerpt from the schematics:

So violet/white on the negative DC out, orange/black on the positive DC out, and orange on the AC inputs. You should be able to use your multimeter to figure out what is what if it's not labeled.

Edit: Oh, and if you're not familiar with what this thing does, here's an explanation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diode_bridge

Ok.. I think I got it. Can anyone verify this is correct?
