My Tempest monitor is out. All game sounds and controls work. The monitor has no picture and does not sound like its starting up? As made obvious by my lunar lander thread, I have little knowledge.

Can anyone give me some starting tips?

Thanks!

Please answer these questions -

Has it been repaired before that you know of?
Has it been re-capped?
Is it possible no repair work was done in the last 25yrs?

The WG6100s are very fixable (if I can do it..). It would probably be a good idea to go through it with
-Bob R cap kit
-Bob R additional kit
-reflow all suspect solder joints and ALL connector pin/header joints

I think the answer is yes to all. The seller has a lot of interest in vectors and I believe he said he had done quite a bit have it in good shape. I will ask him.

Did some troubleshooting. Checked all connections and fuses. On monitor board, 5amp 230 volt fuses times 2 were blown. Red LED on board not illuminated.

Replaced fuses, red LED working. The monitor did not power up.

Game now not working (The game was previosly working ie the start button worked and appropriate sounds played when pushing buttons etc) Now both player one and player two buttons remain illuminated. :(

I think the only LED on the monitor board is the spot killer. It actually should not be on - but most likely the reason it is on now is that your game board is not putting out a signal. If both start buttons are lit, there's some kind of trouble. Check those fuses in the power brick like modessitt said, and check the edge connectors on the game board for good connections.

Follow up post.

I had someone come to help repair it today. After checking everything we replaced some fuses on the monitor. We powered up and the monitor smoked. :(
We replaced the monitor and PCB (just in case) with no improvement.
Lastly, we replaced the power supply and got it working.
He's gonna take the parts to the shop and troubleshoot them.

My Tempest lives!
