Hi all, yet another Tempest question.

Just received this one - new cap kit / LV2000. Was working. Now its now.

When powering on - the monitor Hisses - sounds like a sizzle / gas escaping.....

Quickly power it off since i dont want to damage any further.

Any suggestions? Player 1 / 2 buttons do light up.

Normally, you will get some "chatter" that sounds kinda like a baseball card in the bike spokes, but hissing is another matter.

1st - check to make sure the anode cup wire is seated fully with the clips inside the hole.

2nd - inspect the caps for any bulging or cracked tops.

3rd - turn off all the lights and turn it on, watching for any electrical light show that shouldn't be there. Take off the HV cage cover if need be so you can see in there...

Thanks for the quick response.

Ok - good news I THINK. Took your advice and approached the machine once more. Keep in mind i had the back off before when i posted.

Turned the game on, and now the monitor lights up. Didnt see any light shows in the back. That hissing - or much better analogy - the card through spokes (ah, to be a kid again!) was there. Played a quick game - everything seems fine.

Put the cover back on - no sound (or not as loud). Back to "normal".

Wow. Do those vectors always sound like that ( i have a SW coming too). That is really loud.

I think its ok now - tomorrow, i will keep her on for a while longer to make sure everything is ok (been a long day).

Thanks.

Some are louder than others. It's not uncommon on Tempest especially to hear some chatter with everything buttoned up and standing in front of the game. Tempest really drives the monitor harder than other vectors, which explains why 6100's fail in Tempest's more than others, and the need for the LV upgrade...
