I am working on my main tempest pcb and the cap at C60 is a 22uf, 25V electrolytic cap. The manual states it should be a 1uf, 35V tantalum cap.

Any ideas which is correct?

I saw 1uf 35v...and its a wierd looking cap...one of those "kinda looks like a resistor but its not" deals. Probably an axial electrolytic. I took a pic but didn't get a chance to post it.

If you get a chance please post a picture. So far the axial electrolytic 22uf seems to be the most common. I'm interested to see if any boards have the cap called out in the manual.

Out of the 10 I have sitting in que, It's about 50/50

I have 2 manuals, and one says (for-03&-04 PCB assy. only:c60)

the other calls out the same cap. with out the 03 04 stuff

pics are not to good sorry cheap camera. And my spare set has 22uf, 25V electrolytic cap. Not sure on the one in the game room.

Charger - That's interesting. What revision of the manuals are those. I have the 1st printing and the 2nd printing and they both show like your second picture.

I know this is an old bump but performed a BR tempest pcb cap kit today and it ships with 22uf25v for both C60/C62 and 1uf50v for C61. I went ahead and used them but my pcb had 1uf35v (i assume tantalum cap) in c60, and I am pretty sure 1uf50v in both c61/c62

These replacements didn't seem to change anything for the worse or better, fwiw.

Just a quick note on the capacitors...

I haven't checked the schematics however I would bet those are for the 7815 and 7915 voltage regulation. if you download a datasheet for those regulators, you will find two capacitors on the output side for regulation. The input capacitors are on the AR II board. One of the output capacitors will usually be a tantalum capacitor.

Replacing them probably won't hurt however it probably won't solve many issues either.
