I'm still trying to troubleshoot my Tempest upright. When turned on, the red LED on the board lights...the speakers make a continuous heartbeat-like thumping sound, and the coin counter clicks in tune with the sound. Onscreen is the infamous spot killer, and occasionally matching the thumps, a vertical line shoots from the spot going to the top and bottom of the monitor.

Are there any likely culprits that others have encountered? I've already pulled, cleaned and reseated all ICs.

If you unplug the monitor will the game play blind? If it does play blind and you have a vertical line on the screen when it's plugged in you have power transistor failure.

I don't think its a monitor issue XY, the def board you sent me works beautifully. It was making the same noises (the coin counter continually clicking and the thumping hum) before installing the def board. Its something to do with the board or PS.

Yup run test mode, as Dick says.

Also measure your voltages on the board. +5 +15 +6.8 -15 then the +-22 and -28 on the aux.

Sounds like typical interconnect problems on the boards though. Re-flow the headers reset the cable.

Run self test again.
