Walked into a guy's mini-storage room the other day to check out his arcade offerings and spotted the unmistakeable form of a Tempest cabinet, horribly converted to someone's blasphemous idea of Dragon Spirit internally. I mean, full DS guts from the Sanyo EZ down to the power supply, all stamped with serial number 00200. Externally they had rolled on a nice latex coat of Crap Blue.

Got it home and started peeling the paint, and as soon as my fingernails grow back out, I believe I'll have a nice Tempest!

Yep, it was dang near perfect underneath. First time ever that that's happened. Good ol' latex!

I picked up a Pac Man that was once painted latex red. The fellow before me peeled most of it off and then left it in his storage unit for a few years. It must have baked it on because now what's left won't peel. :( Bummer for me! Nice score for YOU though btw. A Gyruss too! :)

If we're talking about latex paint over artwork you can try using 91% rubbing alcohol and a Magic Eraser to get the paint off. It's pretty gentle in comparison to using some of the harsher chemicals that may damage it. If we're talking paint on paint that is unlikely to come off easily without some damage below.

Here's my quicky video of removing the paint from a Golden Tee to restore it to a MK1

Egads! Golden Tee over MK? Someone needs to be shot.
Yeah, I'm latex paint over original pac paint. I'm all for the "more gentle" approach. I'll give it a shot. That's what I use to clean playfields so I've got it handy. Just getting into the arcade side of things now. :)
