I just picked up a Tempest. I noticed something strange happening between 1-up and 2-up. It looks like the screen collapses in between the player change. Does this sound like a problem?
This is a common issue caused by an earlier version of the game code. You'd just have to get some eproms burned with the more updated version and replace the ones you currently have.
Look up "spot killer" and you will find lots of posts about it and some fixes. You can look to see if the "spot killer" red led is turned on.
This is your screen's output board not working correctly or maybe even the output of your game pcb. I think the most common problem is one or more of the 6 chassis transistors is gone bad.
The collapse problem is cause by later Rev neck board on the 6100, which is why Rev 3 came about.
The problem you have with Rev 3 is your board rev. If you have a rev 3 or 4 board you can change 2 jumpers on the board, and replace the normal roms with the double size roms in every other slot.
Or come up with a rev 3 set that is split to the smaller size.
