SOLD - GAME Tempest... Good condition, working, SoCal

Others may feel differently, but I'd say it's worth fixing them, and keeping the serials together. Folks may not value this now, but I think in the future more will, if these games follow in the same path as other collectibles, where originality and preservation/provenance do add value.

For me, it adds something to the game to say the numbers all match, and the parts haven't been swapped around by ops over the years. (And fully matching games, especially Tempests, are really not very common.)

That cab looks in above average shape, plus the fact that the numbers were matching suggests it has an interesting story. Maybe partly/mostly home use, or at least was well cared for.

What numbers are on the coin counters?
Roughly 31k and 16k on the counters. I hear you on keeping it together. Will likely swap the per brick back as I think it just needs a new fuse block. As for the monitor, I've got the parts for a rebuild including the lv2000. Once that's done, I might sell the original monitor back in, but needle to say the price will go up.

Yeah, that's on the lower side. Not HUO low, but most of the ones I've seen are on the order of 30-50K on each counter, or more.

In my experience it's hasn't ever been necessary to replace a fuse block on these. Only if it was really, really rusted (and even in that case it can be cleaned), or if one of the holders was physically snapped. But the original blocks are actually much more well made than the cheap Chinese replacements, and it's better to keep them IMO.

Sometimes the righthand slide-on connector on the 20A fuse can be burned up. This is just due to the connector corroding and going resistive, and heating up. On these I have just cut the slide-on connector off, cleaned the fuse block tab with some sandpaper (or better yet a Dremel), and soldered the wire to the block. This is the highest current line, so it's the most susceptible to burning up, but soldering will prevent it from ever happening again.

(Also FYI, you can wash these bricks, which also helps. Hose down in the sink with your favorite spray cleaner, scrub with a paintbrush or similar, rinse with hot water. Dry in front of a fan for 24 hours, and it'll be good to go. I've washed dozens of them, with no issues.)

Ok... Power brick is now back to original matching serial numbers. The wonders of a new Big Blue. [emoji3]. The bad fuse holder was on a different power brick I've got.

Will try to get some time on the monitor this weekend. I seem to recall a few burnt resistors in the low voltage section, but not sure what else. Planning to cap, install the lv2000, and troubleshoot the rest of the troubles.

Update and another buying option... I've finished the repair work on the original monitor. This included installing LV2000, recapping the deflection board and a full rebuild on the HV section, including a new flyback. This monitor looks great. This monitor has the matching serial as the game. That said, the serial on the HV section does not match as it was replaced at some time.

The price for the Tempest with the swapped monitor as noted in the original post (working with no update/recap, and different serial), the price is $900.

If you wanted the game with the original monitor that has been serviced and upgraded as above, the cost would be $1100.

I agree with all of you here. This is an amazing deal! And with the option of having the upgraded monitor with matching serial numbers at $1,100 is a true deal.

I have one, so I'm not in the market. Thanks to Andrewb, I have a functional machine with a bullet-proofed PCB and completely rebuilt monitor. For how much work goes into restoring these, again...this is a deal!

Good luck!
