I have a tempest that won't respond to the controls at all (but acts like buttons are being pressed) and is sometimes getting confused if it is in a cocktail. Could this be the interconnect between the 2 boards?

It could be. But it also could be:

1) Bad voltages
2) Bad POKEY chip(s)
3) Everything else

Would recommend that you:
0) Check your voltages
1) Replace or reflow the solder on the interboard connecters. This has solved problems for MANY KLOVers!
2) Press all the wires into their slots on the interboard connecter
3) Swap in known good POKEYs
4) Report back

Now I just need to take this advice on MY flakey Tempest PCBs! :)

0)Voltages are perfect, with not even a ripple in it
1)Was going to try this, but wanted to see if it was even logical
2)Tried pressing them all down, this eliminated 1 issue I was having where the game was randomly coining up and no video
3)Both POKEYs are 100% working
4)See above :)

Well, I reflowed the connector and my game booted fine. Started to play it and no spinner, so I replaced the POKEY and, now I have a fully working Tempest again! Thanks.

I knew that the POKEY was going to die on me soon. Tempest is a game that when it rains, it pours, and I had the other POKEY chip in there die a few months back, so I figured that this one was going to die soon too. Oh well, I finally can play again.
