Up for sale is a nice working Tempest with above average side art , no broken corners, and no moister issues, monitor was bullet proofed a number of years ago. Asking $2,500 ( based on three other Tempests found for sale at $3,000- $3,600).

Oh why oh why would you want to part with such a beautiful game? .....I mean it's not like your giving it away. Still can't imagine. I have two machines and I wouldn't sell them. GLWS!

I'm actually surprised my wife approached me about selling the Tempest. She's been very supportive of my arcade hobby for over 20 years now. The only thing she ever asked was I that buy her a Galaga and this Tempest. So you see it's really her game.If it sells trust me the Tempest will be missed.

Oh....for a minute I thought you were the one that was delusional. I feel much better now...lol

Just bumping it for the weekend. I'm open for offers if anyone here is interested in the game.

So, evidently my $2,500 asking price scared you folks off. I've seen them listed for $3,000 or above elsewhere...what's the normal "going for" range nowdays for a Tempest in collector condition?

I could see someone paying $1500 for a really nice one, you would need more detailed pictures in good lighting inside and out. I've seen plenty sell for less than $1000 on here recently, maybe not as nice a shape as yours but that's your competition.

I would say around $1500-1700. Average condition sell for around $800-$100

The $3000 you are seeing is most likely asking price and not selling price.

I concur.

People can list a game for whatever they want, doesn't mean they sell at that price. Check this forum for old sale threads and eBay "sold" listings to get a better idea. The eBay "sold" prices will be higher than here, but there's a ton of fees cut into that take-home amount (10% final auction value, 3% PayPal, and also listing fees).

Good to know, thanks for the input. I usually price my stuff for fast sell as I'm not in this to make money. Over the years I've sold just enough stuff to pay for the hobby. I look up what others are selling it for and usually price it at a reduced rate Ie I saw 3 tempests at $3,000- $3,600 range so I offered it at $2,500. Thanks again for the replies.

Well yours is beautiful. So if you aren't comfortable with the price then don't sell.

It will only go up in value.

I'm sure it's a very nice Tempest but if I was asking $2,500 for anything, I'd take much better photos. And also many more photos. Pictures from every possible angle. Up close shots, and shots of the inside. Taking pictures of the machine in natural daylight makes a huge difference.

Not only do quality photos attract more buyers but it also gives you a chance to prove this machine is as nice as you say it is.

Sure, interested buyers can ask for better pictures but you can cut right to the chase and save everyone time by snapping quality photos from the very get go. And on the plus side, it gets the sharks swimming. :)

I'm not going to suggest what I think a Tempest is worth, I'm only suggesting you have a much better chance of backing up your asking price with really nice photos.

Good Luck with the sale!

As another point of reference, I bought a Tempest about six months ago from the west coast. The lv kit had been installed and the board had been bulletproofed by a KLOV member. In fact, with a mod added to the board the game also plays Tempest Tubes and Breakout. The cabinet is solid, no corner damage at all and the side art has no major issues. I would give the overall exterior condition a solid 8 out of 10. It's a damn fine looking machine. I paid 1350.00.

^^ hacked boards with CC Breakout are in violation of CC copywrite.
I hope the individual doing those mods has stopped doing so.

Anyway, back on topic, the Tempest does look nice with that lighting. Better pics would be a better idea.

Sounds like you got an awesome deal. The Tempest is my wife's game, as I mentioned. I figure the only reason she even approached me about selling it for her was she was the one who saw the game being sold for $3,600. The company that calls itself Atari busted jeff minter's chops about txk and now I can't play an awesome tube shooter in Virtual Reality. For those of you that don't know Jeff's work he was a programmer behind Tempest 2000 on the Jaguar. Wish Atari could have just struck a deal with him instead of getting all gangster with copyright.
If the copyright cops ever drop by my crib for a looksee, I'll be left with no cabinets at all.
