Hi, all. I just got a Tempest, and It's has only one problem. The guy we got it from told us that it goes out of alignment whenever it's moved, but he has his freind come in and re-adjust it. I'm not sure what would cause this problem, It's my first vector game. I'll post some picture, they can explain it better than I could.
It plays and sounds fine, but everything looks out of alignment. Sometimes the game just stops, and goes to a little beam, that moves around, then it comes back.

Pic2: Level 1
Pic3: Moving from level 1 to 2
Pic4: The score
Pic5: The beam.

Soo...what are your guesses on the problem? any suggestions on how to fix it? Thanks!
Edit: in not exactly sure what type of monitor I have, but I assume it's a 6100. Does this sound like a board, or monitor issue?

It kinda looks like the brightness is up a bit high and you're seeing the whole beam as it's moving from point to point...but it also looks like the vectors are messed up a bit which would point to a board issue. There are adjustments on the board for alignment, but it's been years since I've messed with them. I'm not sure if they could get that far out of adjustment to cause what you're seeing, but hopefully someone else chimes in with stronger advice.

Would brightness cause that? I read somthing saying how to "tune" the picture- put in test mode, hit slam (what is this?) switch, and turn the xy pots till the lines line-up. When you hit the test switch is it supposed to stay? Because mine doesn't stay...Any other words or opinions on this?

i had a space duel that had the same issue and i had to do a full recap of the monitor and i installed a LV2000 and that fixed it

Well brightness wouldn't have anything to do with things being out of alignment. I was thinking more of the fact you can see what looks like the line/beam going from point to point. If brightness is up too high that's what you'd see.

Yes if you put the game in test and hit the slam switch you should get a series of screens that are supposed to help you line things up using the XY pots on the pcb. The slam switch is located inside the coin door and it's what resets the game if someone is beating on the coin door for some reason. On my machine it's located right above the lock on the inside of the coin door.

Hold on - lemme get a magnifying glass so I can look at those tiny pics.

Have you checked to make sure the yoke isn't loose?

Hey, guys! Sorry for the pics, I meant to re-size them, but I was frantic! I fixed the white trace lines by turning down the brightness, and re-aligned the image with the x/y pots on the pcb. It's perfect! Thanks, alot!
