My Tempest began to act strange this morning. When the game starts my display goes crazy and the spikes are all over the place! I unplugged the machine for 10 minutes and the problem disappeared for a few games but eventually returned once again. After unplugging it, the game played fine for a few games and then the problem returned once again. No problems when I run the test mode on the game at all. Anyone have an idea what is going on with my machine? I just had the 6100 redone so I'm thinking that I have a board problem but would appreciate any insight that you guys could give me.

Thanks for the help!

You can isolate if it a logic or monitor problem by using the vector on an oscope. This is a good stand in for a working monitor. If the problem still exists on the scope you have a problem in the logic. This is the point in time that it is handy to have a another XY game to run your questionable logic output into a different monitor to see if the problem is seen on the second monitor or not.

If you don't have a second monitor or scope: wiggle the connector to the monitor to see if that would change the problem for better or worse.

If I were to hazard a guess I would say you have cold solder on a logic board.

My Heavy Barrel did the same thing. Video would shrink and a clicking noise from the cabinet. You could turn it off for about an hour then you could play for about 5 min.

In this case, the +12 was the problem and was fixed by replacing power supply.
