does anyone have a good picture of a Tempest Cabaret with the side art applied instead of the wood grain vinyl? I haven't been able to find one. I am not sure of how it will look, or if you still need to use some black or something to fill the area that the side art won't fill.

I have a set, but I haven't applied it because the sides of my Tempest are a bit rough.

Here are some photos I located by typing "tempest cabaret side art" into this cool site called google.com.

I wouldn't do anything to the sides except slap the art on. These were intended to go over the original woodgrain. If you were going to do something different, black would be a really weird base color, since the upright art is on white. And if you did white instead, it would still look really weird since there would be a ton of empty space.

I will have to try and use this google.com. Is there a membership fee for use of such a wonderful website that gives information like this away

I agreed! I don't think it would look good with any solid colored sides. Here's a quick GIMP of what things might look like w/o the elegant wood sides. I just wish Wilsonart or someone would make an exact wood replica pattern. I know when I've used Formica counter top laminate you get a very tough engineered cabinet; similar to Atari's from kick panel.

Sorry about the pink. That's just the color picked up from the control panel in the picture. I just had to throw it in there. ;)

Yeah, if you wanted to go that route I'd work up custom full side art similar to the upright.

Anyone know how I can aquire the graphics file for Tempest? I can have full side art made no problem, but I will need a good quality file for my designer to work from.

I'm pretty sure the person whom is selling it currently may be the only one with the vector files. Prolly not going to hand them over either, as he's gotta make his money back..

But if they are publicly available, check on the arcade art library..

I think there being made from the original screens, no vector file involved.

so you mean that someone has just scanned the side art and went from there? I think it would look awesome to have full side art on the cabaret also.

No, the original films were used to produce the sideart.. These were available to operators as a mail in promotion.. Most didn't bother, so that's why there isn't many out there with original art.. But the films were purchase when Atari was sold off.. So yeah, that's the deal :)
