So, today I traveled over to Mt. Airy, MD and met gabesdad1981 who was on his way to pick up a Pac-Mania cabinet nearby. He sold me his Tempest cabaret that he recently listed here on KLOV.
Great transaction, great guy, and we had the chance to have a really good conversation over lunch. Let me point out that Matt traveled almost 5 hours to deliver this machine -- I know, he was in the area already for another, but still, this wouldn't have happened if he hadn't been willing to bring it.
The Tempest has a few graphical glitches that show up after its warmed up, and feedback here in the KLOV repair section indicates I should redo the edge connectors and the interconnect cable. Simple enough. I plan to reseat the ROMS too for good measure in case that helps, since the problem definitely seems like a board issue. It also has some substantial water damage at the rear of the cabinet, but it isn't anything I can't handle with some careful cutting and a trip to Home Depot.
My Centipede cabaret prepared me for this battle.
My buddy and I removed the control panel, plexi, etc. to lighten the load and get it downstairs this evening, so while it's partially disassembled I'm going to clean the individual pieces while also figuring out the other glitches. But, all in all, it's a sweet machine. Thanks again, Matt!
Here are a few pics... can't wait to get it all back together and working 100%!!!
