I finally got my tempest built, and it has issues. I bought it from a friend, he had it 100% working, took all the guts out, started restoring the cab, and lost interest and i purchased it. I put all the guts to it, and fire it up and here's what's happening.

1. No blue color in the monitor

2. both start buttons are flashing, only player 2 button is responsive.

3. Once i start a game, it warps in to the first level like normal, then it acts like the round is cleared, and just warps to the next level, and repeats over and over. you can move, and fire, and sound seems fine.

4. Test switch does nothing.

I cleaned/reseated the edge connectors, and interconnect cables, and no change. I suck at pulling and reseating chips, and i also suck at checking voltages. I'm sure i probably should try those two first, but i just wanted some opinions. I also just swapped ARII's with a known good/working one, no effect. any help is appreciated, Brett

This machine just went through a massive two week restoration, new cabinet, everything stripped, refinished, new art, overlays, rebuilt controls, you name it. I really need to get it to 100% so i can put it up for sale, hate to have to wait around for board repairs or buy another board!

Start with the usual suspects - check the interconnect cable and reseat/resolder the connectors on either end. As for the p2 start button not working, I *think* there's a look near the edge connector you can try grounding for p2 start to see if its a wiring or board issue.

well, the level warp problem was a dip setting, got some help from rodger at Vectorlist. It's the P1 button non responsive. it's no longer warping, and now playable, but no blue, no starfield between levels.

Reseat the pokeys on the AUX board. I'm betting that will bring back your player 1. As for the blue and star field check the monitor connector on the monitor and the wiring harness. I had one that had a fractured wire at one point and it resulted in no blue.

If reseating the pokeys doesn't work, try switching them in their sockets. If the player start starts to work, but the spinner stops, you have a bad pokey.
