I was testing a friends two Tempest boards in my cabinet, and then realized that my board is missing half the roms. It also looks like there is some extra wiring done around the connector for the main board.

I'm wondering if anyone has seen something like this, or knows why my board is missing half the roms. Also to note, my board works fine in the cabinet and I've never had an issue with it. When testing the other two board (with full rom sets), they didn't start up and I'd get a mess of vector lines on the screen, then nothing.

I've attached pictures of the differences between the boards, as well as the wiring in my cabinet.

I've read that some Tempest boards were strapped for larger ROM's, but I've never seen one before. I'm guessing that's what you have - larger size ROM's means fewer needed.

I sent a reply to this but it never got posted. Yep, you have revision 3 roms on the one "missing" the roms. It is a later model board probably. That wiring hack looks like crap. follow the red wires back and see where they start from. There may have been a problem with the edge connector and they hardwired the voltage inputs to the board. Hard to tell from the photo on my computer.

Cool, again, thanks for the info.

It was hard to get a good picture of what was going on with the wiring. Basically, it looks like the larger molex is something to do with the X and Y (there is some writing on it, but it's hard to tell). There is a single red wire, which I'm guessing is a power line, going up to the front of the cabinet; and doesn't connect to anything (it's the one with the single QD).

It was also brought up that this might have the Tubes mod, so I wasn't sure if the extra wiring was to allow for that. There seem to be some weird things here and there in the cabinet, and something things not connected. I'm not really that worried about it, since everything is working (knock on wood). It was just an observation I made while testing other boards, and wasn't sure if that would effect how those boards played (ie - something was wired specifically for my board). The info is good to know, though; so I appreciate the responses.
