I got my first vector game recently, and noticed the lines jiggle slightly. A friend of mine has a tempest which has the same issue. They are fully playable, bright and colorful, its just annoying to the trained eye. I don't think an LV2000 has been installed on this, and don't know much about checking components or voltages on a vector monitor yet. I seem to recall this problem might come from the power supply, and that putting in a switcher can eliminate it but cause other problems.

Can someone clue me in on what causes that and if there is an easy remedy?

Thank you.

Does your HV cage have the mesh cover on it? Usually this "shimmer" is caused by interference (radio waves, etc) with the HV section, but I've seen it before on monitors that have the mesh installed....

I don't think there is a mesh cover around the monitor area. Since this is my first vector monitor, I'm not sure what I am looking for. Kent, I was referring to Todd's Tempest who has similar jiggles in the picture. I don't recall what yours had looked like.

When looking at the back of the monitor, you'll see a deflection board on the right side, and the HV box on the left side. The HV box should have a mesh cover on it with a hole on the top for adjusting the HV pot. If it's not there, the squiggles will be more pronounced...
