Temp bans and warnings...

Can't you just ban Steeler fans?

You say you are banning people for being "offensive". I find the ACT of the fucking losers parting out nice games ten times more offensive than the WORDS of any other member. You need to start cracking down on the assholes laying waste to classics. Not saying that people should be allowed to post whatever they want, but the people fucking up nice games should not be allowed to post that shit here, and they should be dealt with. It should not be acceptable here.

Edit: I just realized my post in the Battlezone part out thread was deleted, the post where all I asked was why...

What a fucking joke.

Wow! You need to chill!

I guess I am just one of those... how did you put it? oh yeah... "fucking losers" & "assholes".

I couldnt sell a nice tempest here locally for $500 so I parted it. Now there are 3 tempests alive because of that and I still have a boardset that will bring another to life... and i got $700 for it (not including the boardset)

Yeah, I'm such an "asshole"...

Not everyone parts a game automatically. Some people DO try to sell them forst. For a long time actually. Go buy EagleTG's Hot Rod that he's had available for MONTHS for $150. Yes, $150!!!! Worth WAY more in parts, but he does not want to do that.

I am sure he will eagerly await your PM to come save the game.. Or is that not a "classic" that deserves to be saved?

Chris

Then he is a classy guy and I salute him and this has nothing to do with him.

That was a pretty nice looking BZ too. Certainly one I would put in my living room. No surprise for that user after the dog house mini incident and others.

What really sucks is that high gas prices are probably spur an increase in this.

Dave...

...you don't seem to curse too often IRL... any reason why you do so here? It just looks "out of place" for you.

You part out a nice Tempest and tell me to chill. You are a lost cause.

Sure. Let's go with that...

I cant sell a nice tempest, so I part it and get 4 nice tempests up and running for people locally. So instead of 1 nice one and 4 not working ones, there are now 4 nice working ones. Your logic doesn't work.

You are the lost cause...

So I guess every time a couple of games break down we should just grab a nice working one and part it out. That sounds like some great logic to me. It's sad you consider parting a game to save a couple others a "success". With all of the resources available to fix games, I would hardly call that a win. It's a waste. It's hard to get it into the noobs heads though. Most of you are happy being hacks. If you couldn't sell a working Tempest for $500, you must not have tried for very long.

Now I'm a noob? LOL

Why would I sell a Tempest for $500 when I can get $7-800 in parts. And for the record, its the first cab I have ever parted.

Whatever dude... you really need to get a life. There are things that are way, way more important than this.

I am guessing that you would be pissed at me for having a Space Duel cabinet for my multivector and a Stern Big Game pinball for my MultiPin...

You may want to step back away from the hobby if this part of it makes you so upset. Reason is, its going to get way worse down the line, about 7-10 years from now the following will be true:

1) parts will be drying up (I can't imagine bob roberts being around over 5 more years)
2) The guys repairing them will be drying up
3) The desire to restore these games by people will be drying up.
4) Every year space becomes more expensive (both storage and housing)
5) The revelence of the games themselves will continue to become less important to the public

This isn't just video games, this is pretty much true of all products.

You are upset that games are parted, but you may want to ask yourself, why are they parted. They are parted usually because they are worth more in parts than whole. This is true because to an increasing number of people the game is not worth the space it takes up. It really doesn't have anything to do with 'preserving the hobby' or money grubbing, when it gets down to it, its about space. Video games will never win the war against space. Another thing you may want to ask yourself is why you get mad about this. Are you afraid that somewhere down the line there may be something you want that is gone?

I would like to know the answer to the last one, why do you care what other people do with their stuff? Why do you get angry when someone takes a different path in a hobby than you. Is there a ton of stuff that you plan on wanting down the line? Do you really think the parting games will destroy all the classics in everyones hands?

Its one thing to have an opinion, but the 'vibe' that I get from your posts is that its more than an opinion and a deep anger you have for anyone that parts a game. Why do you get angry?

Please don't take offensive at what I wrote, I am just another collector with a different point of view from yours.

respectfully,
mickey

1. There are a TON of parts floating around. And i mean a TON. People just need to start repairing them when possible instead of being lazy and finding a working replacement.
2. Wrong again. After over 15 years in the hobby, I am just getting warmed up at repairing things for people and there are others headed in the same direction.
3. I see more people into the hobby now than ever before. They just need some direction.
A lot of younger people are getting into it to.
4. So what...
5. See number 3 above.

What is sad, is that people dismiss it like you are here and that people are so numb to when a nice game gets parted out. Instead of asking me why i am so angry, you should be asking how we got to the point where people are so complacent about it.

1) yes there are a ton of broken parts floating around. Non working parts. People will not start repairing them because pcb repair is a lost art and for almost all, not worth the time investment to learn. A guy that wants a tempest in his house is not going to learn an entire career in electronics so that he can fix the pcb when it quits. What you ask is unreasonable except for a chosen few that have electronic backgrounds already.

2) what you fail to understand that is just because you repair stuff, that doesn't create an industry of others behind you to support the entire collecting community. What happens when/if you get divorced, job change, kids, blah blah blah. All your spouting off about helping the hobby will be gone. There is not an army of repair guys out there. In fact for many pcbs, there isn't even a choice of more than 1 or 2 guys. Other pcbs, there is NO ONE. What complicates this even more is the parts are drying up (certain rams/dacs dissappearing or tripling in price for example).

3) What you see is not what is the entire community. The hobby has actually shrunk (many have moved on to pinball). I have been in the hobby actively since 1999 and I have seen the number of games, auctions, transporters, repair guys shrink as a whole. The hobby is not growing, I have no clue where you think this is true, If you took the KLOV website down, the online community would be gone for the most part.

You never did explain 'why you get mad' with what other people do with their own stuff. For example. I like tempest enough that I wanted to own a real one if possible, so I went out and bought one. As much as I like tempest, I have no problem what the rest of the world thinks of tempest and could care less what someone else would do with their own personal tempest machine. The fact that someone out there could be mad that on how I decide to repair to keep that game running is just sorta weird and creepy. Its like you feel that somehow since you like this stuff that it should all be held to your standard.

The fact that your answer to 4) and 5) is 'so what' just shows how unrealistic you are to the entire situation and the fact that you come off more like a 'crazed zealot' than a guy that likes classic games.

If you are right, lets get your repair prices posted, remember to keep them good and cheap (with a warranty too). Thats the only way its cost effective your way.

Don't get me wrong, I like the hobby, but like everything else in life, it has its place and priority. I realize that by me typing all this it will in no way change your mind so I do wish you well and hope you enjoy the hobby.

Name one hobby (or otherwise) that doesn't follow the same path Dave...

Classic Cars - Yup... happens there... perfectly fine classic cars get parted out so other classic cars can be fixed/restored.

Model Airplanes - Yup... happens there... perfectly fine model airplanes get parted out so other model airplanes can be fixed/restored.

Model trails - See Above

What hobby that requires restoration of said object of the hobby DOESN'T follow this line? Name one. Sure... "collections" of different things don't follow this trend because no one "restores" a baseball card (for example).

It's the NATURAL way things work bro. While I understand and commend your commitment to try not to do this yourself... and I can even support your campaign to educate folks (especially newbs) about the importance of not parting out things... it's a huge negative to his hobby and this website to deride and flame those who CHOOSE to do so. They are adults. They own their property. They can do whatever they want. You're welcome to disagree... but the level of "disagreement" coming from you is insulting to many and does nothing but make you look like an ass.

Ever hear the saying "you get more bees with honey"... that saying applies here. How about continuing to champion the cause, again, especially with the newbs... but take it down a notch. It serves NO GOOD WHAT SO EVER to talk shit to long-time collectors and members. You're not changing opinions (which is what I'd imagine you really want... to change opinions). You're only making yourself look like an ass... to friends and foes.

Again, I applaud your efforts... up to that line that you cross ... constantly. You have no "good" reason to disparage people because their opinions don't line up with yours. It serves no purpose...

My thought on this is that you cannot interfere with what a person does with their personal property, if we do that then were are no better than Michael Moore (I don't think any of us want to be that douche bag). We all have rights in this country, we can suggest and even plead that a person not destroy a perfectly good machine to part it out, but it is still their decision. If you care enough you would offer the same or more money and buy the cabinet to preserve it.

I hate it too, but I would much rather live free from other people telling me how to live my life.
