That looks like a converted Space Invaders

Not really if you look close. Looks more like a Space Invaders Deluxe. Space Invaders has the overlapping panels on the side which is like this flyer image. It does look like GAT was leveraging the cabinets, but using their own hardware.

The hardware in the pic of Steve23's is dedicated Game-A-Tron. I will see if I can find the other pictures.

is the marquee on your plastic or is it glass,i am interested to know as mine is plastic,its just that you are saying yours has flaking around one of the logos on it.

It's plexi. I doubt Ill find a reasonably priced replacement, so Ill just touch it up. It's not too bad.

Space Zap is awesome and it's really more like a skill game than what I would consider a traditional arcade game. I have the standup and you can see mine on my VAPS profile pic. It is one of my favorites in the collection, it has great lights and sounds and it gets played every time I have people over. I never played it back in the 80's but i did have a computer game called Outpost that was basically the same thing. I would definately go for the grey cab and not the space invaders looking one(never saw that before)!
