Sue played one recently and fell in love with it. She has just about demanded that we find one and squeeze it in somehow.

Maybe I missed out, but I have never played this game, looks pretty cool on YouTube though. Any owners out there? I'm curious as to how common they are, how pricey, if they are a maintenance headache, just common stuff like that, and also curious on weight, it sure looks like a beast of a cabinet.

What are your thoughts on this game?

I have one, and it's actually been very reliable. However, I do know that parts for these Sega games tend to be quite expensive to replace, but luckily I've not had to go down that road. The cabinet is pretty large, but it's no larger than a sit-down driving game. Plus, the dedicated cabs are on casters, so rolling it around the shop is a piece of cake.

Which house of the dead are you talking about? Personally I think HOTD 2 is the best. I've been playing that game since it came out and it's probably my number one most wanted game. I've pumped many a quarter into those.

Guns are cheap on the first hotd 'cause you can use adapters for happ guns, if I recall correctly. Guns on hotd 2 have to be sega and are a couple hundred bucks each.

I have a Dreamcast in my mame cab that is there to play hotd2. Very cheap setup for home use. Hotd 2 cab goes for about $1000. I bought a dreamcast with 2 guns and hotd2 for about $80.

Now, of course, it doesn't compare to the real deal, but it works for me. Hotd2 runs on Sega Naomi. I'm not sure how reliable Naomis are, but I think they are fairly cheap nowadays.

I think she was playing the original HOTD, but she would probably be happy with either one. I told her its on the Wii and Dreamcast, but she dosent care, she wants the arcade game (and my wife isnt into these games so this speaks volumes). My concern is the price tag, cheapest one around right now is $750. And getting that beast down a 45 degree ramp (yes, thats how I get games in my basement) looks like a chore, that thing sure looks big and heavy. Gun games always seem like alot of maintenance also.

I have rearranged my plans once again and I have a spot for something like this. Just dont know how common these are, if patience will pay off, or what.

I tried talking her into Site 4 (thats the gun game that I like), but she still wants HOTD.

Typing of the Dead really improved my typing skills.

Seriously.

I still play it sometimes.

Also I love HOTD. I want one.

House of the Dead 2 & 3 is awesome on the Wii. It looks great in 480p on a big widescreen LCD. Get a gun adapter for the Wii-mote and you're set.

I'd love to get one of these as well. But give hotd: overkill on the wii a shot. I think its alot more fun then 2&3.

These always go high in this area. Maybe you will have better luck.

I have a standard-sized House of the Dead 2. It's not much bigger than a normal cabinet and it's been a hit with everyone who has been over to play it. I recently completed the game, but I can see myself keeping it for a while because there's several paths that you can play through, based on whether or not you save certain people who are being attacked by zombies. The side art is really cool, too.

Sorry for the water-spotted picture--old camera.

Here is what you need to do: Get a wii, purchase House of the Dead 2 and 3, which is currently on sale at all Gamestop locations for $15. Buy the $15 "quickshot" (I believe that is the name) gun shaped controller that holes the wii remote. The games have a calibration feature that works very well. You can either run it off a projection or plasma or standard TV setup. If you use the projection setup, mount a wireless sensor bar either just above or below the screen and configure it properly in the wii settings menu. It works GREAT, and will cost you less money. I have a DLP projector with about a 70" screen and pump the sounds through stereo speakers with a subwoofer in my gameroom. Everybody LOVES it. HOTD: Overkill is also on sale for the same price. It is REALLY cool, but has lots of mature dialogue for adults only...

I know others have mentioned the ports to home consoles for HOTD 2, 3, etc., but if you're looking for the original HOTD, the arcade game is definitely the way to go. As far as I know, the original was only ported to the Saturn and PC, and both were graphically inferior to their arcade counterpart. Plus, since the wife is interested in it, I wouldn't hesitate to pick it up, and you'd be doing well to find it for $750 if it's local. I rarely see them up for sale around these parts... Regarding the size and weight, if you're able to get a Rush into your cave, I'd think getting a HOTD down there would actually be easier. I have both a Rush and a HOTD, and I think the HOTD is the lighter of the 2.

Im not really crazy about the first house of the dead. The second one has to be one of the best shooters ever. I love everything about it the graphics, music and gameplay. I think it's alot better than the first one. House of the dead overkill for wii is really fun to.

Excellent game. I would have one already if there was any reasonable way to fit it into my house...

Anyhow, the cabinets are big heavy. They're about as long as a sit-down driver and I don't know that they come apart.

Excellent game, though, and no port has ever gotten the first one right.

I see there are 2 different cabinets for the 29" monitor, which one is more desireable, or basically, which one is lighter and/or easier to move around?
