Tell me about Golden Tee (or other good golf games)

I've thought for a while that it would be cool to have a good golf game in the lineup at some point. And then tonight I ran across a guy who is looking for a golf game and he asked how much a Golden Tee would cost and I didn't really know what to tell him since there are something like 15 different variants of the game.

So a couple questions:

1) Does this game get a lot of play in your game rooms?
2) What is the best version (or versions) to keep an eye out for?
3) What kind of cash would something like that typically go for in nice, fully working condition?
4) This isn't a "wanted" thread but if anyone in the area has one for sale I can mention it to him and he may buy it. He wants it for a golf store that he is opening in a couple weeks.
5) Are there other golf games that are as good or better?

Thanks!

I'd be interested in this golf store he's opening up. Pretty rough time for golf shops that aren't green grass(on course).

some type of golden tee 2003-2005 fore is a good one, but it's hard to be the golden tee complete with all 29 courses.

When I had mine, it was the most played game in my game room. I only had to commit 20 minutes to a game and it's a lot of fun. If I play tron, I have to commit hours.
Plus I love golf.

I have only owned this game once and it was an older version, I think it was GT 1999. I thought it sucked. I think you are better off with the more recent versions, they used higher resolution monitors and some versions have a lot of courses (like the Complete). There are some upgrades possible but there is a cutt off of which games can be upgraded. There are also games which could be connected "Live" but I am not sure if all of them can still be used live or not.

There are a few cabinet designs as well. The most common is the one that looks like a golf ball. There is also a version with a pedestal and a bigger monitor that looks a little like a showcase.

I was at an auction recently and was shocked at how cheap some of these were going for. i think there was a Complete which went for $325 and a Live 2007 that went for $400. I saw a 2008 on Craigslist recently for $350 and it was a showcase style. Didn't last long. I bet that was a very good deal for someone.

I think Wikipedia has a good write up on this series. Worth reading.

i had a dedicated Midway Skins Game for a while which was pretty cool, though limited with only 3 courses. the spring-loaded joystick was a nifty innovation which i preferred to using a trackball.

Golden Tee's are everywhere. Sick of looking at them.
Here's another vote for the Seta offering, U.S. CLASSIC.

While avid arcade players may find other titles more challenging,
U.S.Classic is easy to play right from the start. This is key to getting
more average people to insert coins. The tee-off sequences, the
nice Hawaiian music, the simple rule set makes it a good choice.

GT's are everywhere, but nothing beats getting 4 guys together with some extra money on the line and beer and teeing it up with GT.

So a couple questions:

1) Does this game get a lot of play in your game rooms?

- YES! My wife plays it a lot. It's also great during parties.

2) What is the best version (or versions) to keep an eye out for?

You want a DEDICATED original cabinet. Ultimately, Golden Tee Fore Compete is going to be your best bet. I started with a 2005 and upgraded to Complete. 2005 is good, just less courses.

3) What kind of cash would something like that typically go for in nice, fully working condition?

I think I paid around $450.

4) This isn't a "wanted" thread but if anyone in the area has one for sale I can mention it to him and he may buy it. He wants it for a golf store that he is opening in a couple weeks.
5) Are there other golf games that are as good or better?

Goldentee is the standard. Don't mess around with the other stuff (PGA)

My GT '97 gets more guest play than my mame machine. I paid $150 working with a 25in monitor and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Most played game I have. I have 2 one at work and one at home. Nothing is better than drinking beer and betting with a few buddies. $1 a hole skins. $5 Pot for the overall.

GT Fore 2006 "Complete"

3) What kind of cash would something like that typically go for in nice, fully working condition?
$400-$900

Seems they come up for sale a lot around here!
5) Are there other golf games that are as good or better?

Nope unless you can afford a 2011 Live

My two cents.

Love love love neo turf masters. I own a golden tee 2005 and it's one of my most played games. Awesome time with beer and friends. Quarter goes in a jar next to it everytime someone plays for a hole in one
