Recently picked up a $20 Berzerk cab from an auction that was converted to bloxeed and i'm thinking of restoring it. I've never played berzerk but reading over old posts it sounds like it has some sweet audio to it. is this a must have for my arcade? basically i would need to purchase everything but the cab and the monitor and coin door. do people play your's when they visit or is it only you?

I recently posted in a topic that Time Pilot is my second favorite arcade game ever. Well, Berzerk is my first. It is a great game, I honestly do not know anyone who played it and disliked it. It is an amazing combination of simple rules and controls, but complex strategy and techniques.

I bought mine last November, and I will never sell it. It is a pain in the a$$ to fix, but totally worth it. I have it at my bar and it makes 5x as much as my Donkey Kong. It is the poster child game for "easy to learn, but difficult to master".

You might have a hard time finding all the parts, especially the wiring harness and the correct original joystick.

If time is no object, all the parts will eventually come up for sale. You might end up spending more than you would for the complete game, though. This game has five boards, a power supply and a transformer mounted on a wooden board that slides in and out of the cabinet.

I'd look for a complete one that's currently working. They aren't selling for much these days..

Berzerk is awesome. Even though I have a jammatized berzerk/frenzy boardset, I want to add a dedicated Berzerk cab to the collection someday...I rank the gameplay right up there with robotron.

The sounds and the game play are fantastic and pull me right back to the 80's and my lost youth :)

The game is "slow" when you compare it to robotron or just about any williams classic, but don't let the simple game play deceive you. Low scoring games are common.

It's slow...until you hit around 10k.. Then the robots shots become super fast and the game gets intense. Dunno how much faster it gets as 10k is my personal hi score, lol.

I love Berzerk. The speech is what always got me and still does.

I was thinking the same thing. wire harness will be the most difficult. finding my qbert harness took a long time as well but i eventually found 2 the same day, go figure. finding one thats complete is definitely easier but i'd rather save this cab and have it take me a while to find the parts than see it destroyed. and as several people said the speech is awesome in the game which i'm looking forward to. i guess i'll start looking for harness and go from there. thanks for the replies!

Berzerk is a great game! My kids love it as much as I do. The game gets really tough around 8K when the white robots show up and shoot fast. I've hit 15K but getting better. The wiring isn't too bad except for the ribbon cable interconnects. Bob Roberts has a kit with scsi connectors that should work for them. I need to try that some day.
