Tektronix RM503 10MHz Oscilloscope

I wouldn't... At least get at 20MHz at a minimum and get a newer one if you can. Some of those old ones don't have a very bright trace on them.

Also, if you need a scope probe, I have one up on the for sale section.

I was considering pickup up a 25 mhz scope. Will that
be fast enough to help with repairing 80's video games?

(scope newbie).

A decent rule of thumb is to get one at least 2x the clock speed of what you are working on...

This can easily be used with 12MHz systems and you can go higher but lose some definition. So, yes, it'll work.

Make sure it has a bright, crisp line on the display. If it has a square wave test output on it then connect that to the input and see how well defined it looks.

Well, he's not going to be doing laboratory grade work with his... ;) Just wanting to get some visualization of signals on a board. He can work with some rounded edges on the screen!

You mentioned scope bandwidth should be 2x signal... Tektronics suggests 5x signal!

of course the manuafacturer would ... :)

Yes... because he manufacturer knows a lot more about nyquist sampling and electrical engineering than you do. I wouldn't touch anything below 100MHz.
