Hi. I have a Tekken 3 Arcade Board that does not give me a video out.

I believe that the port on the back of the board is VGA at 15 KHz. However, when I plug my computer monitor (CRT) in however, the sync's are way off, and I get scrolling garbage that tends to move more in the horizontal position (H-SYNC).

The JAMMA connector does not give me a video out at all.
When I wire up the JAMMA and plug in my RGB to VGA converter board, I get a picture of the "This game is only for use in Japan..." (or whatever it has) screen. However, that image is garbled up also (colours are way off, and so is the position).

I have tried plugging the board into my Mortal Kombat II Arcade Machine with no luck either.

As for the sound on boot, all I hear is 'meh', for 1 second, then the audio is gone.

I have checked for damaged caps. All good.
I checked for broken traces. All good.
The power rails are all fine.

Any ideas?
(If you need pictures, let me know)

Thanks.

Check the sync output. If it's missing follow it backwards from the edge connector to the chip buffering it. Replace that chip.

As for the rest... those boards suffer from poor solder joints on those Sony chips and the RAM chips on the top board.

I will put the SYNC onto my scope and check it. I will also drag solder the RAM, and CPU/GPU should it need it (I will solder one IC at a time, booting it between solder attempts).
I will let you know how it goes...

Thank you :)

Seems to be okay. Got 16.2 KHz from the JAMMA SYNC.

I drag soldered the RAM, and the VRAM.
Now I don't get a video signal out the VGA port on the back, and from the JAMMA, all I get is a green screen.
Board is completely stuffed now IMO. I can try doing the CPU and GPU, but I don't see this board working anymore...

Okay! All working :)
I found a solder bridge on the RAM.

Thank's for all your help guys! Much appreciated.

similar problem

Hi there, reviving the topic, I have a Tekken 3 board which gives me sound but no video, either Jamma or VGA, I'm using a CGA to VGA for jamma and Vga straight to my XM29plus. Which worked with other boards including tekken tag.

I do see some of the caps kind of bent in at the top, in the top board. I'm fairly new to Namco system, I see C17 is off, so I hope is the culprit. I also do have back home a tekken 2, and other namco games with several caps off, any info on how to get ahold of the replacement parts?. I tried to find them on mouser or digikey, but I'm fairly new buying parts here in the states.
thanks for any help.
Juan
