Have a tekken 2 board and when booted up I get no picture but it says "Good Morning" and then it seems to reboot and keeps doing that. Has anyone ever dealt with this problem or heard of it?

I have a tekken 3 I toasted something on the board I think a resistor. playing around trying different resistors I was able to get the board to go into a loop just like yours saying "GOOD MORNING" than rebooting over and over. If I can find the board I'll post a pic of what is missing, maybe someone can Id the missing part and help us both. It has a big A i.d.'ing it

Tekken 3 is a Namco System 12 game, Tekken 2 is System 11. The motherboards are different.

That being said, the problem I've seen the most on my System 11/12 boards is loose RAM on the daughter board (the one that has the two Sony CPUs). The RAM is surface mounted so you usually can't tell by wiggling the chips, but sometimes a really good cleaning with a toothbrush soaked in alcohol and then touching each pin on the RAM up with a hot soldering iron has brought several games back from graphics glitches and non-booting states for me.

@Long Hair: Your missing component is a diode, not a resistor. By what I can reference from the letter codes on it, it is a 3.6V 150-200mW zener diode. It is mounted with the stripe towards the end closest to the JAMMA connector.

Brian.

where is the RAM?

Look at the picture of the PCB at the top of this page : http://www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=533

The RAM is the group of 8 chips (2 rows of 4) on the top CPU board. It is the only group of 8 chips in that picture, but if you need better clarification let me know.

Thanks for the quick reply i just got the same Good Morning message on my newly acquired board. good thing i ended up getting a tekken 3 board as well....
i guess i will hit the contacts with iso and warm up the leads on those boards

does anyone have a complete board to reference the parts i need to start ordering them?

Well, first off your not missing C66, you are missing C67. C67 is the same value as C59, C60, C61, and C62 - 10mfd 16V (if I'm reading it correctly).

I am including a picture of the area where IC2 and C2 are. You can make out the numbers on IC2 and C2 is a 47mfd 16V capacitor.
