Technos Wrestlefest fail

Here's a cheesy animation i made of the title sequence back when I was playing the game on Raine. I even had a sweet Tripod made fan page for the game! :D Ahhh the memories. I have a dedicated WWF Superstars and I've been thinking of adding my Wrestlefest board into the cab to play it. I would really miss the 4 player aspect though. :(

I am thinking Randy Savage wasn't in the game due to in 1991 he was considered retired by WWF. He lost the match at Wrestlemania to the Ultimate Warrior and wasn't "reinstated" until around Survivor Series. Wikipedia is a wonderful thing for wrestling history. :D

Ooooo yeeaaah!

Legion of Doom

The biggest problem was you could not play as Hawk or Animal, I only wished there could have been some hidden way, it would have made the game over the top!

They should have copied Capcom and made a Champion Edition where you could play as the LOD and maybe even add a couple of more characters. I don't know how well the game did, but I remember it being very popular at the time and could have probably afforded a variant release.

definetely get rid of Earthquake for Macho Man. Would be cool to have seen Elizabeth by the ring side. And why are there more bad guys than good guys?

Based on what the roster looks like, I would guess that Wrestlefest was in development between August and November 1990, so Macho Man was definitely still around. The game was released around the same time he retired.

I also agree that they should have and have sometimes pondered if they had released a roster update around 1992. It probably would have dumped Slaughter, Demolition, Perfect, and Jake Roberts and added Bret Hart, Undertaker, Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels, and Typhoon. It probably could have happened, but I know Technos was having a lot of financial problems around that time and shut down their American division soon after.

Hawk is playable in the Royal Rumble in the 4 player version of the game. I have never done MAME nor tried, nor tried to play LOD in it. But I have played as Hawk. If you exhaust all of the other players and as the computer he is still in the Rumble and you have 3 people coin up the 4th will be able to select him.

If my memory servies me he has the neck breaker, standing drop kick, gorilla press, body slam, and does the flying clothesline.

all those guys you listed though didnt break until mid 90s... hence the Wrestlemania game by midway :)

No? All of the guys I listed were the top guys in WWF in 1992, so had they released a roster update around that time, they almost certainly would have been the ones included. Oh yeah, and the Midway Wrestlemania game is awful, just wanted to throw that in there.

Honestly, I'm only a closet wrestling fan in adult hood because of Randy Savage. His Spider-Man appearance had me look up old wrestling stuff and man...this guy was years ahead of the curve with his performance of his "Savage" character. Totally upstaged everyone during interviews without even trying.

His Macho King schtick would have been perfect for this game (a year or two too early though).

Unfortunately, we only have him in Superstars.

Speaking of Zeus, did anyone else see the Hulk Hogan movie "No Holds Barred"? As a kid I really enjoyed it of course, but watching it now it's so bad that it has that Mystery Science Theater type of feel. The above video of Macho Man and Zeus was promoting a one off pay per view event where you could first watch the movie No Holds Barred and then they had a tag team match with Macho Man and Zeus taking on Hogan and Brutus the Barber Beefcake. IIRC, that was the only actual wrestling match they had for the event. I also remember them showing the cage being set up around the ring before they showed the movie (or maybe it was during the movie).

Edit: Of course YouTube has the match lol
