Look at Sgt. Slaughters finishing move, the Cobra "Cratch" hahahaha. Wrestling fans know its the Cobra Clutch. Just thought that was a funny mistake. Also there is Saturday Night Main Event "tug match mode" which is Ingrish for Tag match mode I believe. We also know there is no 3 count/submissions/referee in the Royal Rumble - but it is still the most entertaining wrestling game ever made, I still play it today!

Japanese flyers win.

Can't you still pin to win in the Royal Rumble mode? Don't other wrestlers jump on top of one another, they kinda pile up. Or is that a different wrestling game i'm thinking of.

Well they at least got it right in the game. LOL

You can and yup you can kick the guy off trying to pin or pile on. And you can get submissions too. In the WWE though I think it is over the top rope only.

what about the demolition team? Also, why isn't it Axe and Smash?

Ax was suffering from health problems by the middle of 1990, so Crush was introduced to take the load off of him, and while he did work the occaisional match after that, he mostly remained on the sidelines while Smash and Crush did most of the work. By the time Wrestlefest would have been in development, Ax probably wasn't appearing at all anymore.

The only person that is really conspicuous by his absence in Wrestlefest is Macho Man Randy Savage, who was definitely still a main event player by the time the game was being worked on, and easily should have been in the game.

Yeah, definitely unfortunate he wasn't in the game. Maybe he was in a contract renegotiation at the time the game was developed? Or they were just strict on the number of wrestlers they could have in the game. If the latter, I think they could have done without Earthquake.

Ax woulda took up too much space on the memory board already reserved for Earthquakes fat ass lol. I always wished someone would hack this rom so LOD could be selectable :/

There is a cheat available via MAME (I think) that allows you to play as LOD. Anyone here remember the Rain emulator? It was a mult-game emulator, but for pretty much Technos made games. Playing WrestleFest on Raine (with no sound either because it hadn't been emulated yet lol) was what ultimately lead me to be in this hobby. :)

You will teach me this mame cheat pretty please? right? ALSO: Earthquake was awesome for this game, his Earthquake Splash shaked the whole screen it was awesome! :D

LOD can be selected if you install the cheats into MAME. They are mostly complete, but if you play as Animal, he will set up the Doomsday Device finish, and if you aren't in the exact position you need to be, you won't be able to progress with the game and will be forced to let the timer run out. The fact that they even include a continue screen graphic for both LOD guys leads me to believe that they did intend for them to be playable at some point during development, but either ran out of time, or couldn't figure out any way for the finisher to work when they were controlled by a human, so they were dumped.

My theory on Macho Man is that based on how the select screen is set up, they would have needed at least 2 more characters, and just didn't have the resources, so he got the boot. Personally I would have dumped Sgt. Slaughter, even though he was the champ at the time of the games release, in hindsight he wasn't really important enough to make it into the game.

Funny you say that, because playing this game in Raine was also my first introduction into the hobby too. Raine had all the Taito and Technos games long before MAME added them and made the emulator mostly useless.

I pretty much agree with everything you said, lol. I would not have taken out Slaughter but if I had to he would probably go. That said, what about HotRod? Piper was in NONE of the Wrestling games. Should had Macho and Piper in the game too. I woulda took Roberts out for Piper. Piper was a head-liner for titles in the late 80s and early 90s. Roberts was always a mid-carder gimmick.

Piper is another case like Ax of Demolition where he was on an extended leave of absence from wrestling at the time the game was released, which is why he probably wasn't included. I agree that he should have been in the game, and had memory space and development time allowed, he likely would have been the second guy included along with Macho Man.
