I get several requests to convert 2pl boards into 4pl boards,
or people trying to swap different Konami PCBs into various Konami cabs.
So I've tried to compile all the info I have gathered into one post...
Here we go...
Sunset Riders, 4 players, has two main 4pl US versions : UAC and UDA
[ Note: There is also UAB, but I believe this to be an earlier version on UAC ]
Version UAC uses 4 coin slots, and each coin slot credits a specific player.
If you don't have 4 coin slots, you can not select player 3 or 4.
And although the player selection screen says "Press Start",
there are actually no "Start" buttons on the control panel .
The player is activated by pressing either the "shoot" or "jump" button on the CP
(assuming they have credits )
During gameplay, adding credits to a specific coin slot, will add lives to that player .
You could potentially have 15+ lives if you wanted
---
Version UDA only recognized two coin slots, and all credits go into a "credit pool" , not to a specific player.
To select a player, you MUST have a START button on the control panel for that player.
(you can NOT use the "shoot" or "jump" button to enable gameplay )
During gameplay, you can not add lives to a player. You must wait until all lives are gone,
and you then get prompted with a "Continue ?" prompt.
If you have credits in the pool, pressing the appropriate start button will resume the game for that player.
--
I don't know which SS cabinet is more popular ( with "start" button, or without ),
but most of the info I found on-line suggests that the Non-Button version is more common.
( In fact, I could not find a picture of a control panel with the start button.
If anyone has this, please post a picture ).
So If you are trying to figure out which 4 player version to use,
if you have 4 coin slots, you want version UAC,
if you have 2 coin slots and 4 start buttons, you want UDA.
If you have 2 coin slots and no start buttons, ...you're kinda screwed !
(...you would need to add extra coin slots or start buttons... )
Clear as Mud ?
