It is called a moving ramp. The arm when it is triggered for multi-ball play and other functions, moves the ball to the left rail (ramp) which feeds the left fllipper - don't really remember all the game triggers - but the arm swings out across the playing field and the ball is stopped and redirected to the left side of the field and drops down from a ramp at the left flipper for play. Sometimes when you put a new ball in play and sometimes during the game.
It is shown on the wiring schematic as "on ramp sw" and the switch number is a 31812, the solenoid is a A-31272..
In test mode all the relay and solenoids tested ok but that one did not stay open when tested - it triggered the moving ramp to open and then cut off each time I tested it. Just like what it does when playing. I don't know if that is what is supposed to happen when you test it. The solenoid does fire off, but doesn't stay on and the gate swings out and then quickly closes.
It worked fine for about four weeks and then just started to swing out and quickly close some of the time but still worked properly for some functions. Then it began to swing out and come back all the time. After it quit functioning properly I have tried to clean it with a paper towel, when that didn't work I used 320 grit sand paper on it and also sprayed electrical connection cleaner on it (the machine was off overnite and restarted the next day as I knew it was a fire hazard).
Again, now when the moving ramp swings out during the game - it extends correctly and then collapses (swings) back to the closed position. Like it runs out of power (electricity) to keep the solenoid working. I'm guessing, I have never had it open and observed it from underneath with the power on. Don't know how to trigger the functions with the game open.
Also, since I have had the machine there is a quick Message (error?) on the digital screen every time you power it up GPROM CHECK SUM E434- . I can't find anything in the service manual that mentions anything like that.
Any ideas out there? This is friends game.
