hey
i have a couple of killer instinct boareds that have a white screen when they book up
i have changed the boot rom and the hard drive and still just a white screen. it does make the bong like its booting up but thats it

white isn't good, do you have the hard drive plugged in? if so unplug it completely from the board and try and boot up, if you get to the blue screen it's prolly your drive.

i wish i had a couple boards, i just have the one pic'd in my avitar >.< (it's out for repair)

Does your CPU have the heat sink still attached? If it's gone or is damaged, it's possibe it was struck and maybe popped some of the legs off their pads.

Try contacting Chad @ Arcadecup.com he might be able to help, i'm sure there are others here that might be able to do it also. he's here on the forums somewhere also :D

noone has any clue
anyonew repair them

Chad to my knowledge takes broken boards and does surface mount solder work to repair them. the CPUs on these are very fragile. what frequently happens is board flex or some dickhead decided to pull the heatsink off the CPU and wound up breaking legs in the process.

alternatively, the large cabinet fan was not only intended to cool the hard drive (which I doubt those 2.5" drives ever really got hot anyway) but was for cooling the CPU. without that fan active, I hear that the CPUs can overheat and burn out.

now there's one more chance at fixing the white bar error, and that's a corrupt U98 boot rom. you can take a gamble on rewriting that to see if it fixes it, but to my knowledge that's mostly caused by either a bad CPU or one of those Altera chips going bad.

also to the guy that sold me my first KI board that was "untested", fuck you. you deal games and you couldn't test a JAMMA game? yeah, fuck you.

you'll usually find these boards in scrapheaps in "untested" condition because of the same problem you've got. sometimes on ebay you'll find some chodes listing boards with bad hard drives, including the blue/black screen signifying a bad drive and you can score them on a bargain on a slow day... most bidders are privy to this though and bid the fuck out of them.

I happened to buy my first board from quarterarcade for a pretty penny at around $230, and the second from dj dns for an incredible price.

/KI

unfortunately my board came minus 1 cpu heatsink, didn't know it when i bought it and decided to play for a couple hours, i later learned that the heatsink was suppose to be there and that it was 100% necessary. i found a PC heatsink and threw it on there with an adhesive pad only to find that the pad didn't stick for beans, so i upgraded to thermal epoxy (it'll never come off now). I think i paid around 125$ for mine about 4-6 years ago and it came with an extra drive.

I upgraded the good working laptop ide hdd, to a desktop model only to have the desktop model die within the past year or so. so i'm going to get a CF kit now, and chad has my board currently. chad loves these boards and i was actually in contact with him before i found this forum as per RevisionX's instruction (if you don't know RevisionX you should find out about him).

Chad can't promise a complete repair but just the fact that he will attempt it has me getting all warm inside. he is very backed up tho right now atleast 40-70 day wait, but its well worth it.

As for the fan, i see no use on using it to cool the HDD and it's completely un needed if you have a CF kit, the CPU on the other hand i have my 120mm pc fan blowing across the board onto it directly. the cpu will need the most cooling if you ever want to keep this game running.

eBay savages will rob you blind on this board, so be careful if looking there for anything.
