I bought one of these today for my son.

There are two wired that connect to the needle (Varcoo SN-H44). One had broken off before I bought it. When my finger touches where the wire should go, I get a good hum and static from the speaker. With the wire soldered back on, I get nothing. No hum, no static. Nothing. It's like connecting that wire kills the speakers.

Any ideas what could be going on here?

No sound

It could be When u soldered the wire it caused a short. Or when the wire broke off it stretched and broke in two places.

Check and see if the needle can be removed and carefully insert a small strand of metal into the holes were the needle goes. Check the other end of the wire and see if it goes to a connector on the board or is solders in. With the record player off see if you have a short between the 2 wires and if each were ohms out from the needle head connection back to the board.
