Finally got game set up. Picked it up in trade about 6 months ago. Other party told me it had some problems....understatement of the year.

Drop Target coil was melted down BIG time, Coil wires were cut and spliced together, and the transistor was cut off the driver board.

I replaced the coil (only had a Stern 26-1200, this should be ok right?), replaced the transistor (called for 102..only had 122), wired coil back up and now the Drop Target coil stays engaged on power up.

I tried installing my spare driver board with the correct Tip102 and it still did the same thing.

Could the problem be the coil?

Could someone snap a quick pic of their Drop Target coil and assembly so I can tell if i have everything wired up correctly?

Thanks in advance.

I haven't had time to download a manual, just a couple of things come to mind right off the bat-

You should be able to look at other coils in the game (not the flipper coils though) to see how your coil should be wired. Other coils will show you if they are using diodes, diode orientation, and which side of the lug/diode the wires are in relation to the wiring.

If all of the above check out properly, and once you have verified your wiring is correct, it is time to look at the boards... I would look at the pre-driver as well.

Clay has a very good procedure here- http://www.pinrepair.com/wpc/index2.htm#trans

Let's also see some pics of your setup.

Is the switch arm getting stuck under the reset plate?

The switch is working fine in the switch test. The problem Im having is the coil engaging and staying engaged on power up.

I have the manual and according to it (if im reading it
correctly) there should be 3 "different colored" wires going to the drop target coil?
(2)violet/green from j-107 and then (1)blue/brown and (1)violet/green from
j-122? So 4 total?

UPDATE: took driver board to work, installed a new tip102 (the 122 i installed was fried), wired the coil up CORRECTLY, and bingo...problem solved.

Thanks to all that helped.
