I wanna start a dedicated thread because I wanna talk about this game in depth. I wanna start playing. I have it downloading right now. I know theres a huge fan base so I wanna know if anyone here has it and can show me some stuff? I also don't know what servers and such to be playing on. Any help would be awesome. I have a mic as well.

FMonk has been a heavy player for years (and I don't necessarily mean the class...in fact, he seems to be more of a Pyro :)). I played a bit on 360 trying to 100% The Orange Box (still a few left to go!), but never played it for any great length of time.

Another friend of mine who used to play a lot a few years ago just started back up, so with him, you, FMonk, and the fact that I just spent close to $2000 upgrading my PC as well as Jin's, maybe I'll finally get into this shit (and possibly drag her into it as well!).

Of course, I've been saying this for years (FMonk can attest to that), so who knows. But I'd like to say that I actually will this time. If I starting seeing a third of my friends playing TF2 at any given time, that will probably push me that direction :p

Well please lets start playing. I never played this game for even a second so im gonna be 100% new to it. my dl rate is slow as shit so unless I run my ethernet cord manually I dont think Ill be playing tonight. I wanna play with people I know cause I feel its easier to learn together than individually

I'll be out of town until this weekend, so while I might be on Steam, I don't have enough computer with me to run TF2 (old laptop). I've been playing pretty steadily since a month or two after it came out (I have the Grizzled Veteran badge). Lately I've been more busy and not playing as much, but with the new item system and trading, I've been playing a bit more. My current Steam name has 'Straight Idlin' on the end, because I start the game before I go to the office and let it run in an idle server to get random item drops :D

Check out my TF2 backpack! The other cool rare items I have are the Gentle Manne's Service Medal #8946, which you could only get through a secret link on the official blog, and the Horseless Headless Horsemann's Headtaker, which had to be crafted using the Haunted Metal dropped by the Horseless Headless Horseman from this year's Halloween event. :D

When I'm back in town, I'll send you guys (I think I have both of you on my friends list) the address to my favorite server, Girl's Club. It's not always full, but the people who play there regularly (holdovers from our former server, Garbage Day) are fun to play with. Also, one of the guys on my friends list who used to play regularly has a golden wrench (#98). :D

damn. alright well yea when you get back hit me up, unfortunately Im leaving Jan 6th through the 16th for a cruise LOL.

About the idle servers, is that worth it? can you get banned for that? should I do that overnight?? I also see that they changed it to only about 11 items a week.

Oh no, it may be a while! :p

You can't get banned for using the idle servers, but they do add to your total playtime stats (but so did the fake idle program). We all used to use the fake idle program, which would just run in a command prompt and convince the valve servers that you were online, but they shut that down. I lost a lot of hats on that day :p I also missed out on getting the Cheater's Lament hat, but I randomly got it a few months back, I guess people were still trying to cheat.

I would say that idling is worth it, for one thing, with the weekly limit, you're likely to get all the items you will in a week in one overnight session. The limit is anywhere between 11-16 IIRC.

I only have it on the 360, Mattroid's on my friends list, I'm pretty sure I added myself to his Gamertag thread.

If anyone wants to play it, just send me a request. If I'm in the middle of another game, I'm usually playing something offline so I'll jump out.

I'd like to setup scheduled games on the Arcade Crusade group, if you all are interested. Other games I'd like to see us team up on sometime:

Alien Swarm
Plain Sight
Left 4 Dead (1 and 2)

There are more that I think most of us have, but those would be the most fun, I think.

heres a list of games I have on steam if anyone wants to setup a game for them just post here

I have more games but their not on steam :( I wish I could trade my cd keys for steam cd keys

lol, yeah - me too. i'm just a sucker for those damn sales. I've got 200+ games on steam, most of which I've never even installed. At least most of yours are installed...

I won't buy retail titles on Steam. I pickup FREE stuff and cheap Indie stuff. I want discs/cases in my hands. I won't pay money for something intangible that could disappear along with it's content distributor, unless it only comes that way.

gabe newell as always said that if valve ever goes away that they will release a update that will make all your games work without steam

I am generally this way as well. I'm a collector at heart and always want a hard copy of everything. The deals on Steam are sometimes just too good for me to pass them up, though :p For the games I REALLY like, I may have both a hard copy and a steam/digital copy.

Call me crazy.

Sony also said that they would provide PSP GO users with a way to put their UMD games on their GO without having to download/re-buy them digitally. I didn't buy a GO...but touche.

I can cite many many corporate lies to consumers, or just oversight...either way, I NEVER take any company's word for anything. When a company goes bankrupt or a service they provide does, shareholders get paid first...screw the consumer/employees. If there is cost to do something, and there ain't enough money to do it...ain't happening.

I give you money, you put something in my hand or GTFO.

I find digital download only, akin to putting money in a collection plate at church...I don't go to church, so you can decipher that one.

Well, a LOT of stuff is going that way. I wouldn't be terribly surprised if in 10 years damn near all games are digital distribution only. Then again, we were supposed to have a paperless office by now, and we see how that went. But, not nearly as many people are fighting against the DD trend.

All I know is that if it even looks like Valve is beginning to go under, I'll be installing all my games and backing them up to disc just in case. In theory, if you switched to offline mode, you could still play them.

But really, I'm not worried about it too much. By the time that happens, I probably won't care about many of these games and hard copy version of them would be collecting dust much like my old floppy games from the 90's.
