Taxi questions (TECH)

What's maximum number of revolutions you should get when you launch the ball at full extension? Either I used the wrong springs or something's wrong with my assembly, I can't get past 25 even on full extension (which isn't terribly bad, actually, but still feels like cheating).

I once was able to get Gorbie by shooting from the joyride insert side. I think I just tripped the the little wire on the Gorbie side that opens the ball gate at his saucer (sorry if my terms are off) on the previous shot. Is this normal?

Boy, if I could just stop playing this thing, I could actually fix it and see what it's like to play it when it's 100% working. :p

Well thats a good sign :). At least you know you like it, even with errors! It's fun, huh? I never played one either and to think I was a teen in the arcade in the 80's oh well. Is it a system 11 "gibbious"?

I'd never played one either. But it's quite fun! Yup, System 11B to be exact, I believe.

Going to think it might be something slowing the ball down on its way to the spinny part. Is the game level, could there be a rubber bumping it? And if nothing else change out your shooter shaft / spring to see if it helps. I am having hella probs with my pinbot and replacing bits made a difference.

Hi Gibbous,

If everything is perfect you should get past 100K on the spinner shot. I'm actually having some problems with this myself. I replaced the plunger spring with a high tension spring but if it hits 100K I'm lucky. It's a skill shot so you shouldn't have to pull the plunger all the way out to hit 100K. I've been fooling with the spinner plastics but haven't figured it out yet. If I understand correctly your plunger spring is high-tension if it's red. Mine is red. If I'm wrong, hopefully someone will chime in to correct me.

With regards to Gorbie, I just fixed mine so I'm comfortable answering this. You should only be able to pick up gorbie when you send the ball his way on the right side. When the ball hits the gate above his picture on the playfield, it signals the gate above the hole to open so the ball can drop in the hole. You should never be able to pick up Gorbie from below where you would send it to get the Joyride. If you send the ball from below and it's picking up Gorbie, then I'd guess that there's some issue with that gate above his pic on the playfield. Basically when the gate above his picture is activated it tells the board if the ball goes in that hole within a few seconds it should register as a pick up rather than a Joyride.

I hope this helps. If I didn't explain it right let me know and I'll try to clarify.

Thanks, yak, yeah, that helps.

I'm using a regular tension spring, so I could go higher and see if that helps. As I said, though, it barely gets to 25, so I think there may be something else going on with alignment or something like that. I will have to check that out. The plunger assembly itself feels loose, like the rod has too much side-to-side play, so there may be something going on there as well.

Realizing I had the dang game on PS3, I fired it up and from full extension was able to get to 100 plus 5 or 10, I believe. So I have a lot of missing power, if the emulated Taxi is accurate.

As for getting Gorbie from the Joyride side, it has only happened once, and I did trip the "sensing" gate on the right side on just the previous shot. There has to be some period of time between when you trip that wire on the right side and the Gorbie gate opens to the time it closes. I'm wondering if it's possible to trip the gate, have the ball come back down to the flippers, then hit the shot from the joyride side in that amount of time. Seems like it could be possible.

I'm talking out of my ass here, but I read a post once where the problem wasn't the plunger but the ramp itself. The ramp was not adjust correctly so the ball was getting some air and that was slowing it down on the way to the skillshot.

Take a good look on how the ball behaves on the ramp on the way to the spinner...

when replacing the shooter on my BOP there was a coil sleve in there. Works really good. Not sure if that is normal, but it works.
