target terror monitor resolution

hi
i noticed the klov list messes up quite often as far as machine res.
it also doesnt state if it can be more than oen res (like rush 2049)

after speaking to betson (after i tried it, and couldnt use a med res as the image was trippled)
u can only switch to different resolution swith the KIT versions that dont use an actual pc.
the dedicated version uses an actual pc, and even if u switch dips on the i/o board, you can not use different res monitors.
vga only on dedicated versions...

Hate to bump an ancient thread, but this is the only one I found related to this topic and I want to correct it.

The dedicated Target Terror can in fact run at other than VGA resolution. I have mine running now in EGA on a medium res 27" K7500 monitor. The dip switch settings do in fact work (at least for EGA/VGA, havent tried CGA). The game will NOT sync for the entire bios or loading screens though on my medium res screen. Once the game is fully loaded though it looks just great.

This all comes down to the IO board. There is only one version of this board. There is no difference between the conversion kit and dedicated cab as far as the IO board is concerned.

Anyways this problem kicked my butt. So in the event someone else finds this, I hope it saves some headache.

I have to add to this. I'm working on one of these right now, and I cannot get it to run on CGA, or EGA, only VGA. I would think what you're saying is correct, that there's only one IO board.... but I'm leaning towards maybe somehow the Target Terror software won't allow it, but the Target Terror Gold software will.

My theory is that Target Terror was only available dedicated, the kits came out later and were called Gold, and then they also made some dedicateds called Gold.

I don't know why the software would make a difference, but I'm working on a Target Terror 1.08 (which is the very first version) in a dedicated cabinet, and the dipswitches on the IO board do not change the resolution, I've tried a CGA and EGA and all it will work on is a VGA.

My only theory is that somehow there's some kind of handshake or some info is sent to the IO board by the software on the PC, and on the early version they didn't have dipswitch selectable resolutions.

So it's been confirmed above that you CAN use the dips in a dedicated, but in mine you can't (and it looks like a few other people's).... so I think it may have something to do with what version of software you are running.

I think there's 1.08, and 1.34 which are Target Terror, then 1.54 and 2.12 which are Target Terror Gold.

This would make sense..... original target terror was never offered as a kit. Target terror/force was.... there would be no reason in raw thrills's eyes to make original TT take anything but a vga signal.

Speaking of all this, is there any way to replace a hard drive on a non-gold target terror? I have one I can't get to boot right and I'm pretty sure it's the HD. I got my target terror gold working no problem using the disc.

you can buy a new 2.12 restore disc from Raw Thrills for $20 apparently.

I swore you could just download from them, but I also had a hookup a few years ago when I needed to replace a Deal Or No Deal hard drive. I just pulled a hard drive from my stash that was the same size and it worked. it was pretty cool.
