This is a new one to me. I showed up to fix a target terror that won't boot up. The power supply was DOA, so I hooked a new one up. Upon firing up the game, the gun wiring (player 1) wire between the I/O board and the gun literally went up in smoke.

I unhooked the gun, and I ended up shorting two wires to get the power supply to the PC part of the game to start - but I still get bupkis on the screen.

Any thoughts on this one? I'm 100% the gun is fried, but I don't see any damage to the I/O board. My thoughts are maybe the gun shorted and burnt something out on the I/O board (hope not - those are like $300!)

Just wanted to note:

The board seems ok now. I got Target Force to boot back up. Here is what happened:

1) The power supply died.
2) The owner decided to swap the power supply
3) The pc wouldn't boot - the owner's spouse is a computer person - said to take out the battery to reset the bios
4) The bios reset - and it kept looking for a floppy disk drive, causing the PC to stall. The signal won't output until the PC passes this portion since the monitor was standard res. No output = the owner (and spouse) thought the computer was dead.

Hooked a keyboard and an LCD screen up and reset the bios. After reboot, everything seems ok.

Tomorrow I'll look at the gun and make sure the gun inputs work.
