Tapper Tap Handle Joystick Spring Steel Replacements?

Anybody have an easy solution for replacement of these? I've had both of mine break and then I replaced them with spring steel from a Defender stick and now those are broken. Pre-made ones don't seem to be available.

FWIW, Mylstar's B-stock is great. They aren't even really that bent, and can be straightened. I bought a bunch a while ago, and they work great, for Defender sticks. Not sure if they can be made to work for Midway sticks. (I just haven't tried, so it might be possible.)

The hack saw blade idea is clever. That just might work.

Depending where your original broke, you may be able to reuse it. Mine broke right at the leaf switch block, so I just made a notch at the end and drilled a new hole, then reinstalled into the leaf switch. So, the notch straddles the bottom screw (to keep it from leaning to either side), and the top screw goes through the new hole. The spring was quite a bit longer than it needed to be, so it still easily reaches.

Thanks for the tips, guys. I'll order some from Mylstar. The Defender ones are fine for a Tapper on location.

They are the same as those found on Galaga sticks

I keep hearing that yet few vendors who sell them label them as compatible with Tapper; thus, I've always been suspicious. I'm glad to hear confirmation they do indeed work. It would greatly benefit some vendors to start presenting them as Tapper parts, too. Even many collectors don't know all cross-compatibility by heart.

I use one from a Galaga joystick in my Tapper, it is identical

Anyhow have either a good source for these still or, to the hacksaw trick, are you just cutting a blade to proper length?

Yes - that's what I did. You'll also need a small hole in one end. I have an air tool that punches the holes (used for spot welding) but a regular drill will work.

Awesome thanks. Did it "stiffen" up the sticks? Mine are super spongy....

I've been on a silicone kick recently. After trying a few different things to replace them I finally just made these little doohickies. They slide into the spot where the rubber stopper is. Seem to be holding up pretty good... I want to run them a little longer to make sure they'll last, but they're working great so far. Luckily this machine in on location and gets played a LOT, so we'll see. ... probably should've taken a picture of them before I put them in... ... hindsight and all.

Sorry for the thread necro... just stumbled across this while looking for some dust covers.
