Tapper...monitor will not sync...I've tweaked till I can tweak no more!

Picked up a Bud Tapper which came with a Kortek. The Kortek syncs just fine but hasn't been recapped so I figured I would put in one of my spare monitors. I have tried to get both my recapped wg4900 and wg4600 and I can't get either one to lock in place. I can get the monitor to slow down enough to where its just slowly scrolling horizontally but no matter how much I tweak I can't get em to lock in place. Any help would be appreciated!

I'm no expert but the sync can be connected several different ways. There are a number of threads around that show the differences. If your game was previously set up as a composite sync and you are trying to hook it something else then it won't work. Or vice versa.

There should be two plugs - one for video (6 pin), and one for sync(3 pin). If there is only one six pin plug, then you're going to have a hard time with the 4600 and 4900, because the sync signals available on the main connector are positive sync. MCR games are negative sync, so you'll have to connect it to the negative sync header (the three pin one).

I'd figure that the wiring from the Tapper should be normal. You shouldn't have to worry about 6-pin or 3-pin, except for if your 4600 has an interface card with only 3 pins.

The bigger problem would be if you have vertical sync hooked up. The 4900 (and maybe the 4600) don't like the vertical hooked up on negative composite sync games...

Yup,
I only have the 6 pin video connector. I don't have the 3 pin sync. I was figuring it was something to do with positive vs. neg sync

so how do I go about aquiring the proper cable to hook up to the 3 pin sync?

Yea my 4900 came from a Burgertime (I had sync issues with that game as well though) and the 4600 came out of a centipede...both vertical games.

Find a three pin molex plug (or trim one down to fit) and hook it up. You can buy new connectors and pins from Bob Roberts if you need them, or use scavenged parts, etc.

If they're standard molex pins in a housing already, you can just remove the two sync pins out of the connector and insert them into a three pin housing - the third pin is ground, and is not needed, provided you already have a video ground connected somewhere.

This is where all those random leftover bits of harnesses and scrap wires come in handy.

Tapper would not have shipped with a Kortek - so someone has already changed the connector once. From the factory, it's supposed to have the six pin connector for video/ground, and the three pin connector for sync.

Bullseye. That someone was me. EV, I completely forgot I did that when I put the Kortek in awhile back. I bought a new Bob Roberts MCR cable, but had to pop out the pins from the 3 pin connector and put them all into the one 6 pin connector. That 3 pin connector is somewhere in my stash. Where exactly I don't know. :(

ha! well let me know if you find it! It should be included in my purchase of your Tapper! ha :)

bumping this up...is this what I need from Bob Roberts? I'm trying to sync a g07 with it now and having the same sync issues...
Video/Sync Harness w MCR Long (5')

Bob's harness did the trick. Thanks for the help guys!

That would work if you can't make it yourself. Make sure it gets plugged into the right spot on the board...

Same spot as the old video connection right? What a pain to reach between the boards

Yeah, same spot. But on the MCR boards there's another spot that looks like the right place but it isn't.

Bob's cable should work fine.

Shouldn't be a pain. Right there on the middle board - easily accessed on the edge.

Just wanted to make sure since your having issues.

That being said - there are other things that can be wrong on a G07 that can cause sync issues. I just fixed one that had the wrong R314 factory installed (4.7k-ohm instead of 390-ohm. R317 was correct). As many times as I've read about that possibility, it's the first time I've seen one...

The g07 was just rebuilt has been tested. I'm having the same issue when I hook up a WG4900...but it works perfectly fine (for an hour) with the Kortek thats in there. I think the wiring from Bob Roberts "should" do the trick. I appreciate everyone's assistance! I'll report back in a few days with results!
