The joystick shaft and ball on my Tapper upright is rough. The red ball looks like it was clamped in vice grips and chewed up.

What other games used this same joystick? Are there are any repros (ms pac?) or NOS out there that match this?

thanks in advance..

I think this is actually your pic, the red ball joystick in the center of the control panel:

Yep, that's my before pic.

Some reason I was thinking the tapper handles, not the directional...

Seems that the MCR games that use this joy (Domino Man comes to mind) have nothing special to them.

Never compared it to the Galage/Pac etc...should be the same. The only thing is, repros are micro switches.

Sorry about my confusion! :D

In fact, I used a galaga joy to replace a few parts on the handles, never looked at the red ball to see if it would work...sorry, no help really.

No, that's helpful. Thanks! I know that my red ball has a texture to it, but it's really chewed up. I have a Ms Pac and Galaga, so I can compare. A new ball, if the shaft was identical would work fine. As long as the ball is really close. Not working on it anytime soon, just thought I'd dig and find out!

Tapper uses the exact same joystick assembly that was shoved into every ms. pacman, find yourself one of those and either use the guts or the whole thing. Tapper and ms. manuals may call out a different part number but they are identical. This is also the identical assembly used in a Journey machine which is NOT an 8 way stick.

Don't use the above picture as a guide cuz everything about that control panel is wrong.

Like you know what you're speaking about....pffft.

Couldn't confirm, but you did.

Gospel is now written.

I'll add a little more since i'm on a roll!

The bar taps on your tapper use the same lower assembly as a galaga and the same goes for the timber chop handles. And yes, the main 4 way stick on a timber is the the same as tapper and ms. pac which is also like the journey stick and whadda ya know, they're all 4 way.

Don't mean to derail this thread, but...didn't I read somewhere (I *think* it was in one of your threads actually) that the leafs are bent so that 8 way functions on an otherwise 4-way stick? Or am I remembering that incorrectly. I need to get a stick for a Journey and wanted to know if a Ms Pac would suffice with some tweaked leafs.

Same stick, just bend the leafs. This assembly uses a restrictor plate that was meant for 4 way only(there is no arguement here folks) so the only way to get 8 way function is to bend em.
