Hello, I know this topic has been discussed before but wanted to see if anyone has had success with having the Bally Tapper cupholders replated. I am a bit confused with the idea that some have said the metal is of poor quality and bad for plating but they were originally plated so obviously it can be done. Please let me know who has had them redone with good success.

thanks, Rich

To answer your question Rich, i attempted twice to have mine replated and they looked like absolute ass so don't waste your money. My powdercoater wants to try these in a brass finish and says he can do it but there will be some filling involved as these are gonna outgas in the oven and it may take several attempts to finally get it. This is an experiment he's gonna try for me at no charge cuz i give him plenty of business however, even if he's successful, he'll never do it again. I said i would post the results but i still haven't brought mine to his shop.

Krajkerjac - So from what I read on your restoration thread you had them powdercoated. Can you give a few details of prep ,actual color, and any other info. on getting them to look like your finished product ?

thanks, Rich

With the powdercoating, prepping involves sand blasting it down to the pot metal. Mine was in decent shape. I tried to rattle can paint it and was not happy with the results. Didn't want my beer to damage the paintjob! :D

The color was matched to the closest color of brass. It may not be an exact match, however, it is well above average, and will not be destroyed ever again.

As stated above, the outgases coming from it can and will bubble the finish. This doesn't happen as bad if they're hung to dry (most are) and the part facing the cab is facing upward.

I was very lucky (very) that the sides and top didn't have the gas bubbles happen. it did though on the side that attaches to the machine, but who cares? I don't see it, and no one else will either.

Overall, give it a shot. It'll look 10x better than rattle can paint.
