What do you guys think of a Tapper cocktail? I'm torn. I have two rare cocktails - Domino Man and Crystal Castles - but they don't get as much play as uprights. I often see Tapper cocktails for half the price of an upright. So it's tempting, but I have no idea if I will use it! Just thoughts...I guess I am talkative today. It always seems these Tapper cocktails are around me or close to me. But again, I may never play it if it's a cocktail.

I guess as long as you're not left handed the Tapper cocktail looks great to me, lol. I guess it is just harder to casually walk up and play in a collection when you have to sit down for it, though with Atari cocktails you could set them to bartop height which is about as tall as most arcade control panels.

Cocktails are also more pet friendly

We have six cocktail machines here:
Crystal Castles, Millipede, Dig Dug, Space Duel, Ms. Pac, and Asteroids

We really like them, because it's nice to be able to sit down and have a cup of tea and maybe some scones or something while playing a game, but I think the Tapper cocktail is very inferior to the upright version.

With the Tapper cocktail, you lose the excellent artwork package and aesthetic of the upright version, including the integrated cupholders (lol), trading that for basically flat black overlay with "Tapper" written on it. The cocktail, due to having a horizontally mounted 19" monitor, is also ginormous, and gains you very little for it. It isn't as though it's shorter in the other axis, it's just huge. Our Space Duel cocktail gets a pass on the 19" monitor because I think the dual sit down is a better experience than the upright, and the Ms. Pac gets a pass because the midway cocktails do a great job of fitting a 19" monitor vertically....

In any case, I think there's definitely a reason they're half the price of the uprights. :/
I wouldn't buy one at 1K. Maybe if it were even cheaper than that - and working. I would like to have an upright someday.

And as a sidenote on what gets play:
Ms. Pac and Dig Dug seem to get plenty of attention here at parties.
My wife and I play Millipede and Space Duel frequently.
Poor Crystal Castles gets played a little less, and Asteroids very infrequently.

So true about cocktails getting less play than uprights - at least in the home environment.
That's my experience with my duplicate games - Galaga, Tempest, Asteroids Deluxe and Armor Attack. Only the uprights are played. The cocktails are covered and used as "storage tables". :(

For Warlords, I do prefer my 4player cocktail but the upright also has some points going for it - 1. it's an upright, 2. the mirror/overlay effect etc. YMMV

If your arcade is setup more for uprights, then just go with that.
If you want to collect the more rare versions, then be prepared that they will just sit and not get played. Which is an injustice for you and the game.

Well said. Yes, that's my experience as well. I guess I'll wait for a UR Tapper - it's not a grail game for me, it's cool, but not one I have to have.

Is there anyone out there who prefers the 2p Upright Warlords to the 4p Cocktail? The Cocktail was grail status to me until I got one.

For me, it's a tough call.
I prefer uprights. And I like mirrored/overlay affects - which provides an improved visual experience. It would look awesome in a row with other Atari cabinets.
Though the cocktail allows four "humans" to play and that's difficult to beat. And the cabinet design is slim-lined, simple, sleek and cool. It also weighs less. LOL
Overall, the only real answer is to own BOTH. :)

In most cases cocktails are less desirable. There are situations where having one is better, usually due to room layout. We have one because it fits in a spot not good for other games. If you aren't in that situation, I'd pass on the cocktail.

My Family plays our Tapper cocktail all the time. I am now up to four cocktail games. I picked up the fourth one last week and am trying to get it to 100%.
I would love a Tron cocktail to sit beside the upright and the Tron pinball.
