Tank 8 as FPGA?

What are these files?
It's called a core for an FPGA. FPGA is a field programmable gate array. To understand what it is you have to understand the difference between FPGA and emulation. Emulation is about making code run on a different system by reverse engineering it. FPGA is about emulating the hardware with a software core. The FPGA name comes from the fact that one chip can mimic an entire donkey Kong pcb or whatever with the correct core programming. If a core is programmed correctly to an FPGA it can be indistinguishable from real hardware. FPGA's aren't really normal cpus, it's hard to explain they're designed for mimicking other hardware. Emulation will always introduce lag and inaccuracies. Anyways hope that helps explain it, that's a very surface level description but I hope it helps.

SWEET! 😁

I knew what an FPGA is, I just didn't know what core files looked like. Thanks for posting this, hopefully we'll see some attempts at reproing the full games now!
I'm not exactly sure which files in there are the core or for what system this is designed to run on. Some are likely the game rom and bios. I wouldn't get your hopes up too much on this project seeing as this code hasn't been modified in 4 years so it likely was abandoned by the original creator before finishing it. But I love fpga solutions and hope this does come to fruition!

What are these files?
If you open the info.mac file it describes what all these files are. They are not a "core" or anything related to FPGA code. Scanning through them quickly they look to be either original source files or disassembled object files for the original game. They include dumps of the ROMs and PROMs on the board. If you wanted to make an FPGA design for this you would need the prom files and the rom files since they contain the original game code but you still need the full schematics which up to this point seems like are not available.
