Talon claw machine keeps resetting

sorry to hear man. This machine is really pissing me off though I have been chasing this problem for over a year now. Mine started rebooting again as well. My step dad was going to come over again he has some other ideas to try but he wants to wait for this whole corona virus thing to be over so could be a bit.

Out of curiosity does your stop rebooting if you unplug the power to the coin slots/lights/bill collector?

Yes it stops rebooting but now there isn't a way to coin up. Any other thoughts? I told my wife if I don't have it working in a week that I would sell it :-(

I feel your pain man. I called the guy that redesigned a better board and he still says his board sucks and he has abandoned the project. I bought everything to use an arduino board however I don't know when I will get around to doing the project. https://create.arduino.cc/projecthub/-MMM-/homemade-claw-machine-0f26aa Wish I could be better help but it is looking like the design of this motherboard originally was not that great.

I finally sold mine that was doing the same thing. The guy that bought it said that he had fixed a bunch of Talon cranes resetting like this, and it was always the wires going to the trolley. He has it on location and says it works perfectly after reworking that harness. I don't guess he has any reason to lie, but it was hard for me to believe that the resets had anything to do with that harness. Something to consider....

Any chance you could get in contact with this person for more insight on the complete repair?

sold it on facebook marketplace. Just looked him up and sent him a message. It was the entire Gantry and harness that he sent off to be redone. When / if I hear back I will follow up.

He got back to me and confirmed that I was mistaken, lol. For the resetting, he sent the board for repair to a guy named Scott. From his website: Most of you know me as Scott. I was the repair technician at United Textile for the 10 years
before they closed their doors. I was asked by United to take over all of their repairs and
continue to support their cranes. In fact, I am currently the only technician factory authorized
by United to repair the Treasure Chest cranes. Feel free to contact me with any questions.

This is amazing news thank you so much I've already sent him an email

I heard back from Scott at Aslex!

His response:

In most cases resetting issues with the Talon crane are not a board problem. Let me guess, you turn on the crane, it goes to the back, the right, the left, then to the front, you get the 05/19 19/95 date code, then it resets as soon as the lockout coils try to pull in and starts the cycle all over again. Is this what you're seeing? If so, that's usually a connection problem. It could also be a power supply that is improperly adjusted. Clean up the connections at J1 and P1, and make sure the +5 vdc on the power supply is set to +5.35 vdc when measured on pins 10 and 20 of U9 on the main board. Anywhere between +5.3 and +5.4 is fine. If it does turn out to be a board problem, you can send it through the US Post Office to the address below. Just make sure you include a note with your contact information so I contact you when the board is done. Board repairs are $60 + parts and shipping. All repairs come with a 30 warranty. I can usually turn a board around and have it on it's way back to you within a few days.

I will try this when I get home!!

Man, thats awesome. The guy that sent me the contact info said that Scott really knows his shizzle, and judging from the detailed response, I believe him and looks like you got the right guy!!!!!! $60 board repair??? awesome.

Good luck!!!!!

If you have problems finding the poor connection, why not try disconnecting the lockout coils? If you still need coin operation you could remove them entirely or zip tie them shut. I know it's a patch, but might be worth a try. Might eliminate the spike in voltage caused from trying to fire them if they aren't hooked up

I am not sure where or what the lockout coils are, to be honest

The lockout coils are the ones on the coin mechs that make it where it won't take a quarter when it's not booted up, they pull in when the machine boots up so a quarter will fall through the mech and not go back out the coin return.

Like The Sheriff Buford was saying it could be those are causing a spike in voltage that makes it reset, if the other guy is saying cleaning up the connectors will work maybe if it's on there right the voltage likes it better.....

You may need to remove the coin mechs to make easier access. From the back they are on the left side of the mechs and there is probably a diode soldered to it across the two terminals or solder points. There will be two wires going to it. Since you were able to disconnect the harness and stop the resetting, this will probably work for you. Just disconnect or cut one of the wires on each one. Credit switch should still work fine, but if you are keeping it as coin drop you will have to physically remove or otherwise disable the coils. You are almost there...

Ok so the other coinmech is unplugged and this one the coil is disconnected and I even cut the diode between the 2 connectors that were connected to the coil and still it will reset.

Welp, there goes that theory. I guess the transistor on the board that controls that board may be failing, so it wouldn't matter if the coil was wired up or not, but Im.just throwing darts at it.. if you checked what Scott said to check and voltages are good, might be worth the $60 to see if it is something on the board.

Whatever happened with this did you figure it out. I have a machine that is doing the same thing. I bought it from my guide on Craigslist . He showed me everything was working fine. I got it home and it started doing the reboot thing.
