I remember the game from back in the day. Played it very little in the arcade. I played it on the PC a little too and had some fun with it. I love Midway Fighters and have UMK3 and KI2 already, so it is almost more a novelty thing for me. I know the game gets next to no love. Game is local, cabinet is dedicated, game works well, is in good shape and price is under $400. I am on the fence.

... cause ultimately that game was SO POOR that they never did a sequel to it to develop the game system.

The problem is with fighting games is that they are competitive. If you are good and no one else is at it, then when they come they won't even want to play you cause you'll kick their ass.

This is why it's only good to collect the ones that you can play with others. Any fighting game gets old quick in single player. Figure out a pattern and finish the game.

If you want to collect/own all fighting games, or all 90s midway cabinet games, then yes you should buy it. If neither, than no. In terms of weird 90s midway fighters I would definitely recommend Mace: The Dark Age over War Gods.

Or any other fighting game in the history of fighting games over either.

Dudes. Kabuki Joe. 'Nuff said.

This was perfectly said.

Les, the game is awful. I see you already own a UMK3 and a KI2. You will be sorely disappointed (even though you have played it in the past). I bet it would just sit in your Midway row unused. For $400, I would just buy another Mortal Kombat. MKII specifically.

Mace is a fun fighter with solid gameplay and a great cabinet...no need to hate x.X

Okay....Okay..... I let my feelings for War Gods bleed into my feelings for Mace. I do not have very much time logged on Mace, but it was certainly given more production attention than War Gods. The first time I played War Gods, it became the pinnacle prototype for games that were pushed through production as fast as possible, with no love from the designers. Being a huge MK fan, a part of me died that day.

mace is cool but not great either but has badass cab art.

War Gods has cool art (not quite as cool but still cooler than clown chi)

War Gods also has it's own unique flavor.

I don't think i'd pay $400 for it tho it's all about condition tho mint cab, nice monitor, money burning hole in pocket.... it could happen i suppose.... tho that painted over $200 midway cab with tekken/MvC/buck hunter is more tempting (just saying theoretically, I love a good restore)

All good points, thank you guys for the help. I could get it for $300, but the part about it sitting there is probably true. I am just getting excited now that the new gameroom is nearing completion. I should probably hold off. I have plenty to play and plenty of projects to work on. We'll see how it goes.

I thought I heard a story that with war gods was so bad that midway kept testing it until the testers finally refused to play it.

I don't play fighting games, so I can't comment on it. But if you want a nice medium rez cab, then buying a shitty game in it should not stop you. Maybe someone can comment on if the monitor normally in it is dual rez? Then the cab would have added value.

The final boss of the War Gods arcade is damn near impossible to beat. My brother (postmortem on this forum) has done it a couple times but I could never get even remotely close.. I LOVE the look of the cab and I wouldn't mind owning one, even if the game isn't the greatest. One thing to consider... It's a medium res game.. I think they all came with K7500 monitors.. So don't buy one assuming you can just put in a Mortal Kombat board in there if War Gods gets boring.

I thought that later War Gods cabs were dip switchable from medium to standard rez. Regardless, I would keep it dedicated. I have an mk3 cab to play those games in.
