I'm working on a 'Tales of the Arabian Nights', the game works and plays fine but after it's been on and playing for about twenty minutes it resets and stops playing. If I shut it off and let it sit for a few min it will run for another twenty. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Sounds awful... you better just give it to me. :(

Seriously, my first pin I ever bought was a Who Dunnit. Great game, but it was as if the damn thing was over heating! I never understood it. Took many many hours to figure out the issue. I bullet proofed it, I had the BR replaced. I put a new heat sink on it... it was absurd. Nothing worked.

The fix? Re seating the ribbon cables. I'm not lying to you. Re seating the cables fixed it. It would play fine for a solid 10 minutes. Then, sound effects would start to go... then, the game just died. Turn it off and back on, wouldn't come on. Hours and hours later, played fine again and did the same thing.

Re seat those cables, and let us know what happens!

Check your wall voltage first, if it's low it can cause resets. You need at least 115, anything less can cause problems. Very common problem with WPC games, my Whitewater I eventually traced it's reset problem to a bad BR2.

Sounds like your +5 is randomly dropping.
I would personally start by checking the solder and relowing molex header pins. Those are infamous for cracking. Any burning on the headers themselves? Replace them.
Otherwise replace caps C10 and C31.
If it still does it then replace the other "typical" culprits which are BR2 and Q1

I would bet your problem lies with C10 on the component side.

Hey guys, so I spent a couple of hours on this game tonight. This is what is/was happening: The game plays fine for about 20min and then the game (in the middle of game play) just reboots. Soon as it does you can simply start another game, you don't have to cycle power.
So I checked everything that was suggested and still no luck. The only clue I took was that the self test reported that the magnet (the one that looks like a flaming doughnut) was not working. So I disconnected it and the game stopped resetting and plays fine, with the exception of the magnet not working. Anyone know what could be causing this? Should I replace that unit? Seems like there's not much that can break, any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like your halfway there. Magnets pull a lot of power, probably pulling your +5 too low. Could be BR2, but I would try to for sure isolate the problem. Plug the magnet back in and start a game with the glass off. Make the magnet come on and see if it resets. I'm no expert, but that's what I would try to be sure it's the magnet. You can continue to trace the problem from there.

Currently the magnet isn't working, apparently it hasn't been working for a while now. Could be a power drain, I can reconnect it and then make the game get to that point and see if it happens again. Where is this BR2, what is it and what board is it located on? Sorry, I haven't worked on too many of these. Thanks.

It may still be a situation that someone else suggested, that your line voltage may drop at certain points, like if your A/C kicks on, and you have a drop in line voltage or something else like the magnet. This can be corrected by trying to move your machine to a different power circuit that may have less things plugged into it. Ultimately, you'll want to have the caps and bridge rectifiers replaced on the power supply board to make the on-board power as trouble-free as possible.
