Hello all,

I have two technical questions on a Tales from the Crypt:

1). While I have become capable to do small things I have a long ways to go for large ones. I was not told the shaker motor did not work thus was dismayed to find that out (always seems to be things sellers do not know of or tell me. Yet it is my fault for not finding our beforehand). Regretfully, though, as I was tinkering with it something touched that was not supposed to and there was a flash and pop, some smoke, and a terrible smell (although I did see the motor move!). Yikes! Thankfully the game itself still seems fine, yet I am hopeful I did not ruin the PCB to the motor. Any ideas what I can do to trouble shoot this?

2). I noticed that when the game first turns on it will play sound during the attract mode when the ad for Tommy pinball comes up. However when the same ad comes up later it no longer plays any music. Is this normal? For what it is worth, the game has the latest ROMs.

Thanks all!

On my Jurassic Park, the music in attract mode is speratic. I've never payed close attention to when it plays, but I do know that sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't, so that is probably normal. Good luck on the shaker motor, I had an OP with "40 years factory trained experience" sell me a fully working game and I ended up doing some damage trying to fix the problems he didn't tell me about. Most is well now though, but I know it's pretty frustrating. You can't check everything in a few plays though so missing the broken shaker motor isn't unreasonable.

RE: attract sounds, that is normal. That'd be pretty darn annoying if it played the music every single time for an OP back in the day. The attract music can also be turned off.

Regarding your motor, if you saw a flash, then you probably saw the fuse pop. you most likely grounded something you shouldn't have. Rule of thumb - always work with the machine turned off! The only thing you should do with the game on is change bulbs.

Goodness, isn't this the truth! I was pretty disappointed with myself when I did that. I suppose I was just hoping to see some life in the motor which is why I had the electricity on, yet it was inappropriate and I hope to never make that mistake again!

Thanks everyone!!! I will keep working on it!

Always...
